Individual Ready Reserve is about to be called up. (Drudge)
http://www.drudgereport.com/flash2.htm

There was some talk about this a few months ago when some recruiters had contacted members of the IRR and tried to get them to sign up for Reserve or National Guard units. The recruiters were telling the IRR soldiers basically that the IRR is going to get called up so you might as well come and join the Reserves or National Guard.

Anyone here in the IRR?

1. Can you imagine?
Unbelievable. The chimp refuses to release the strategic oil reserves to bring down gas prices and lower the economic crunch on American families, yet will call up the IRR to go off and get killed in some God-forssaken desert wasteland.

There are fewer and fewer troops to send out to die, and I doubt first time enlistment stats are up these days. Calling up the IRR is the last step before re-instating the draft. That's what we've got to look forward to if BushCo gets re-elected.

God help us.

2. Strategic reserve

That's one thing I agree with Bush about. In no way should he touch the petroleum reserve to lower gas prices. High gas prices are a problem we have complete control over. If idiot Americans want to drive like morons and buy SUV's, then they should have to pay more for gas.

The petroleum reserve should be reserved exclusively for winter heating demands, as for that issue, people have no choice.

7. Agreed.
Release of the strategic reserve is not something that should be taken lightly.

Neither is the activation of the IRR.

3. Please excuse my ignorance
but what is the IRR and how does it differ from the regular Reserve or National Guard?

5. Inactive Ready Reserve
When you sign up for a four year hitch, you really sign up for eight years, four on active duty and four in the IRR. IRR can be called back to active duty during times of emergency.

Activation of the IRR as a whole is considered the final stopgap before reintroduction of the draft.

6. yeah....

But we must remember...the call up of 5,600 is nothing compared to the full 180,000+ troop force of the IRR. I don't think we will need that many troops any time soon. At least I hope not...

Personally, I believe the imaginary "bar" for the draft is around 100,000. Any need for troops past that level is when I believe we will see a draft. That would put our war troop levels around 250,000. This is just a guess though...
