Biggest Less Than 2,000 Theater Box Office Openings Ever
Edited on Sat Jun-26-04 06:32 PM by stickdog
1) Blair Witch Project $29,207,381, 1,101 theaters, $26,528 average
2) Back to the Future Part II $27,835,125, 1,865 theaters, $14,925 average
3) Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom $25,337,110, 1,687 theaters, $15,019 average
4) Forrest Gump $24,450,602, 1,595 theaters, $15,329 average
5) Return of the Jedi $23,019,618, 1,002 theaters, $22,973 average

So far, F 9/11 has made in excess of 8.2 million on Friday alone ($9,447 per theater), which means that a $24 million weekend ($27,600 per theater) would be a conservative estimate.

I predict 3rd or 4th place for F-9/11 in just 868 theaters.

Plus, first ever (or second to Blair Witch) in per theater average for any 500 - 2000 theater opening.

1. Give us the stats for F911 again, will you?
Or add to your original post if there's time. Thanks.

3. Wanna bet that
when they give the stats for the weekend that they will present it so it comes in way behind those with more screens and say that it came in last making it sound like it didn't so that well.

4. Who knows what will happen tonight, but, right now, it's #1.

It's only Saturday afternoon (no evening numbers in yet), but check this out on Box Office Mojo... right now, Friday numbers only, it's beating "White Chicks", "Dodgeball" and "The Notebook.". "White Chicks has been open since Wednesday, "Dodgeball" opened last weekend, and "The Notebook" opened Friday, along with F911.

Pretty damned impressive, considering only 860+ screens to the thousands the other three films are screening on.

I am honestly shocked. Then again, that's the first movie I've ever been to where the entire theater busted out into spontaneous cheers and applause at the very end. Imagine the word-of-mouth this film is going to get!

It's just getting started. :D
