Huge security op begins for Bush visit

The biggest security operation in the history of the State is under way today as the country prepared for the arrival of US President George Bush.

More than 2,000 troops, heavy armoured vehicles, four naval ships and Air Corps planes will surround Shannon Airport, where President Bush is due to arrive tonight.

Specialist decontamination units and bomb disposal teams will also be on high alert to guard against a possible chemical or biological attack.

A massive police operation involving 4,000 officers is also being mounted outside the walls of the exclusive Dromoland Castle Hotel in Co Clare, where the president will spend the night before jetting off to attend a UN summit in Turkey on Saturday afternoon.

Armed US Secret Service personnel will also be allowed to open fire during the visit if they believe they or the President is at risk.

9. APC's are different
as their name suggests, they're designed to carry soldiers. They have light or no armament, and light armour. The ones in the picture are also wheeled, not tracked (so they won't have so much capability to go cross-country). Their purpose is to deliver soldiers somewhere, and maybe give them a refuge during fighting with hand-held weapons.

Tanks have heavy armour, heavy weaponry, and only contain the crew needed to operate it. Their purpose is to destroy things, and protect the crew from other heavy weaponry while they're doing it.

Could you see Dumbya doing this??

4. Thanks for the photos of Clinton. What a contrast! Seems he didn't have
to have an "Exclusionary Zone" from the PEOPLE!

8. Back in 2000
I was personally thanked for the good work my President did for Ireland. It made me proud as hell.
What a shock to see the comparison in the above pictures.
The Irish are the nicest people I've ever met and they loooove Americans, but this must chap their asses to no end. Shades of Belfast at its worst... Thanks Mr. Bush!

11. The SHAME of America!
This nasty, murdering, shriveled little bollocks cannot go among the people--not even in his "own" land. He must always have layers of soldiers (of one stripe or another) around him, lest rocks and bricks rain down on him. He is The Most Hated Man on Earth.

The Irish remember what kings do; Americans are learning it the hard way.
