Poll question: How much money will 'Fahrenheit 9/11' take in this weekend?
F 9/11 is opening on about 840 screen nationwide. What do you think the total box office haul will be for this weekend?

Just so you know, last weekend's box office totals look like this:
1. DodgeBall - $30,070,196 (2700 screens)
2. The Terminal - $19,053,199 (2811 screens)
3. Harry Potter - $18,027,466 (3805 screens)
4. Shrek 2 - $13,941,950 (3306 screens)
5. Garfield - $11,340,298 (3150 screens)
...
10. Troy - $1,778,352 (1303 screens)

1. I had done an estimate a day or two back
Based on a per screen average, assuming that F 9/11 would be between a good opening (Dodegeball) and a super opening (Harry Potter) and then multiplied it times 868 and came up with like $16 million, I think.

2. You might have to adjust
for theatre size. I'm sure Harry Potter and Dodgeball were showing on the biggest screens at the multiplex. F911 is playing in smaller theaters.

3. I'd like to see it surpass
DodgeBall, but...I can only hope. However, after just seeing it in a small theater in a midsize city in the middle of the day, I'd say it will be seen by many more than some repugs think will see it for the theater was packed and hundreds were standing in line to enter for the 3:15 showing. I predict numbers for the remainder of the showings for the day will exceed the first two. This has been--for many years--a red state. I hope that this film will help to change its color!!

5. Longevity matters also
Some of these pop films will have a short run. But F 9/11 is gaining steam with every showing. People will see it several times, and many, like myself, will encourage friends to see it.

I have emailed about 10 friends about it today.

7. Let's hope it keeps growing
If it could grow its take for the next two weekends, it will be big news.

Let's hope for the best.

6. I hope it makes enough so that Fox News
has to show it on their ticker on 48th St in New York of the top three grossing films of the weekend.
They do this every Monday.

15. I think you are going to get your wish
$8.2 million on Friday.

Most theaters are sold out for today and most of tomorrow.

It is getting lots of press, even though most of it is negative.

This movie is going to be #1 this weekend. Let's hope it only gets bigger next weekend.

8. Look who brought in $8.2 million on Friday
Early estimates place F9/11's take at $8.2 million on Friday. That is almost $10,000 per screen. That is huge.

The number 2 spot goes to 'White Chicks' with $6.76 million or $2500 per screen.

F 9/11 is on about 1/3 as many screens as 'White Chicks' and it blew it away.

Add to it that many of the screens are in small theaters and this is just a great haul.

Let's keep getting people in those seats.

9. Holy shit....
That means it's pretty much guaranteed a 15 million dollar opening on somewhere around a 1000 screens (Many theatres added a 2nd screen).

That's UNHEARD of. Historic really. A documentary opening in half as many theatres blowing away the competion to finish as the #1 movie.

It will be on 2000 screens next week. For sure.

12. Well, yes.
When a movie proves itself like this, other theatre chains see all the money their competitors are making and want a piece of the action. It's the American way. Capitalism!

14. Let's hope
It would be great for it to be in 2000 by next weekend. By the way, I think their number does include the 2nd screens. Last week it was only going to be on 530 or so screens. Just yesterday the number was 836. They now peg the number at 868. Since it keeps growing, I think they are including the 2nd screens.

Wouldn't it be great if it broke the all time Doc box office in one weekend. I think the record is right around $30 million. It will be heard to do, but so great if it did.
