1. She's my younger brother's representative
Edited on Sat Aug-16-03 11:54 AM by PDittie
He's an engineer at Lockheed (and a right-wing freak).

As Congresswoman Kay Granger heads into the month of July, she is on a legislative roll. Her first coup involved The Higher Education and Learning Promotion Act of 1997. The bill, which she introduced on June 5, was quickly incorporated into the Republicans tax cut proposal passed in the House. The legislation would allow those receiving the proposed $500 per child tax credit to place that money in a tax-free educational savings account.

Her other major achievement focused on continuing support for the F-16 fighter. The jet, manufactured by Fort Worth-based Lockheed Martin, was dropped from the original Defense Appropriations Bill for 1998-99. Rep. Granger after discussing the project with members of the committee and working with other members who sought to reinstate the jet programs, convinced the committee to restore funding for the program thus protecting the 11,000 jobs that the Lockheed Martin plant produces.

She represents the 12th District of Texas, an area stretching from the eastern edge of Fort Worth to Weatherford, 12 miles to the west. The 12th District's most famous representative is former Speaker Jim Wright.

3. And an excerpt and a link from the Observer:
When Fort Worth Congresswoman Kay Granger announced in 1998 that she’d helped land millions in federal funds to complete a commuter rail line linking Fort Worth and Dallas and build a multi-user transportation hub in downtown Fort Worth, the local press greeted her with the fanfare traditionally reserved for members of Congress who bring home the bacon. Granger, a Republican member of the House Transportation Committee – the committee that awards federal funding for transportation projects – hasn’t been shy about parlaying her clout in Washington into pork for her hometown.

She’s been a little less forthcoming, however, about her ownership of a 7,677 square-foot building – purchased by Granger in March of 1998 – that sits in a prime spot just across the street from the site of the nearly completed Intermodal Transportation Center. Purchased at a fire-sale price of just over $100,000, the once-dilapidated property, after renovations, is now valued on the tax rolls at $534,000. Sitting, as it does, in the middle of an area of massive revitalization, the value can only continue to grow. In the wake of the deal, few are likely to question Granger’s business acumen. Her ethics may be another story.
