Just back from F-911 - first showing
I wasn't planning on going today - just passed by the movie theater to see if they still have tickets for tomorrow. it turned out this was when the box office started for the first showing of the movie. A line formed immediately. Cameras, reporters filming us - and interviewing people when they came out. The theater was full. There was applause at the end. There was applause when Maxine Waters said in the Joint session of Congress "I don't care about the rules"
It was the first time I cried about 911 - once I started, I kepr it on. He never for a second shows the towers. Just the sound in complete darkness and people's faces looking at it. The picture people (looking for their families). As I said, once I started, I cried through half of the movie -  Iraqis victims, soldiers killed and maimed - I cried and cried. (and if you must know, I almost NEVER cry at movies). It is extremely powerful.
I was thinking - as he showed the joint session in 2001 - the Florida 14, panning over the lilly white Senate refusing to join in - I had swore then - I'd never vote for any senator for POTUS.
It's a good movie, go see it!

6. I went in NYC, East Village. Not many freepers around.
Although I did see some defaced posters for the movie. Anyway, as someone who occasionally goes to movies in the morning - it's a big deal to have a full house at 11 - even on first day! The theatre seems to know it too, as it has it going in 5 showings - every half an hour practicelly.

Can you imagiine how angry this film is gonna make people?

Any Freeper dumb enough to disrupt a screening would probably get ripped to shreds

It won't open in Phoenix until Friday.

I'm amazed that the movie touched you so much. It will be interesting to hear how the movie affected others, too.

25. It wasn't an uncut 7 minutes. He was shown on screeen for say 3 minutes
looking weasly - with Moore's comment - "what do you think was he thinking then - "which of my allies did it to me?" It intrerrupts it to go to Saddam with Rummy, Taliban in Texas, Saudis, Carlyle, Bandar - then returns to W sitting with the book in his hand (he was reading FOR HIMSELF - not to the kids!) - and by this time you don't know whether to laugh, throw something at him or scream. Very powerful!

24. The Picture People

Oh lord I remember that...

I was sitting in a sports bar on 9/12, and of course no sports were on, so they were running the news on the big screens. The place is just north of the airport, and it was packed with people who were stranded in OKC.

Some reporter started interviewing "picture people," and before long tears started streaming down my face. It was the first time I'd truly conceived of the scope of what had happened. I looked around and noticed this was happening all over the bar, that the bartenders had stopped tending, and it was almost more than I could take.

29. What/Who are the picture people?
I was at work on 9/11 with no television, limited radio access and virtually no internet.

I wasn't able to see the images that are forever stuck in people's mind....like the people jumping from the buildings, etc. Not that I necessarily would have WANTED to see that, but alot of images and visuals from that day are foreign to me.

Who are the picture people?

They would hold out pictures of their loved ones for the cameras, hoping that someone might recognize them as having survived. Early on, so many people were unsure of the status of those they loved.

44. It sounds like the catharsis the country needs
Part of the problem since 911 has been that we've never been able to grieve properly. We've been told to get angry, we've been told to kick ass, and we've been told to ignore the whole thing and keep shopping. But we've never been allowed to just break down and cry.

If the whole nation can open up and have a good cry-fest in the next couple of weeks, some very interesting things might come of it . . .

After the towers attack, I remember feeling like nothing would ever be the same again. Everything went into slow motion as I moved through my community. Music was richer, and sadder..........then,
They tell us to GO SHOPPPING!! to just go about our business and keep stepping.

Even now, I wonder if things will ever "feel" the same again......

4 stars (out of 4)

Among the movies everyone should see this year--whatever your film taste or your political bent--Michael Moore's incendiary documentary "Fahrenheit 9/11" heads the list.

67. Starts on 5 screens in Pittsburgh Friday!!
Not just the "art house" theatre, but now will show at a bunch of screens, even in the burbs!

I am eagerly awaiting seeing it tomorrow -- but I have to remind myself that it is going to be difficult viewing. I am glad to see a film which tells these truths, but the truths it tells! I will be grateful for the traditional Moore touches of irony -- the Capitol Hill recruitment drive, for example -- but the subject overall is very grim indeed. So much has happened over the last two years that it is not surprising that some of us have become emotionally disengaged from the events of Sept 11 -- I know this film will bring those feelings of horror back. I will re-experience those days of horror -- this time with the knowledge of what was really going on that day. It will be a powerful experience.

I hope to see "yins guys" at one of the showings.
