June 21, 2004 | HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) -- Gov. John G. Rowland will announce his resignation Monday night, amid a federal corruption investigation and a growing move to impeach him, his lawyer told The Associated Press.

The governor was planning to announce his resignation on a live television address to the state at 6 p.m., lawyer William Dow III said Monday. Rowland's resignation would elevate GOP Lt. Gov. M. Jodi Rell to governor. Dow would not specify when the resignation would take effect.

Earlier, a spokesman for the governor's office refused to comment.

Rowland, 47, a Republican easily re-elected to a third term in 2002, admitted late last year that he lied about accepting gifts and favors from friends, state contractors and state employees. But he continued to insist that he did nothing in return for the gifts.

3. TALKING POINT! We must hammer this home...
The GOP does it all the time, and this is war...so we must use the techniques where we're able...John Rowland was/is a close personal friend of the Bush's (and Ken Lay's). He was widely rumored to be being readied for a top post in the Bush WH when the the investigation was revealed during the vetting. He was not entirely hung out to dry by Bush...Rowland was invited to share the podium with W and Jebbie at the National Governor's conference.

Birds of a feather, people. These GOP scum all ride on the backs of others as long as its convenient, then knife them in the back. Crooks hang around in crook circles. Just look at Rowland's best buddies, Kenny Boy & The Chimp. Make sure you mention it when discussing him..."Bush friend and confidant, John Rowland." Because he is.
