What's going on in the Kerry Campaign?
Edited on Fri Jun-18-04 05:50 PM by senseandsensibility
Could some of you who don't live in safe states enlighten me? I live in California, and never see ads for Bush or Kerry. While I feel glad that Kerry apparently has my state sown up, I'm starting to feel isolated. I've contributed several times to Kerry so he can keep up with Bush in the advertising department, but I never see how the donations are being spent! Who gets to see Kerry's ads? What are they like ? How do they stack up, volume wise, with the Bush ads?
I know I'm not getting the full picture, but sometimes it feels like nothing's happening.

1. The ads are up on his website
I am in Iowa, so I do see the ads. . .but if you want to sample them, they are on the web.

Kerry's are at http://www.johnkerry.com

Bush's at http://www.georgewbush.com/

Right now, Kerry's are positive and biographical

Bush's are negative and generally distort Kerry's Record.

2. Thanks for the links
I like the idea of Kerry running positive ads, but I think he does need to start running some negative FACTUAL ads too. He has so much material to work with, after all! No need for distortion!}(

3. I, too, live in SoCal.
I've never seen a Kerry ad, and I have donated, but I probably could see them on his website. It's just that I don't feel the need to see them on his website. But I agree with you - it is easy to get spooked wondering how active he is. I decided to read one of his speeches, posted on his website, a couple of times a week. Makes me feel part of the campaign.

7. I live in Silicon Valley
Both campaigns have written us off completely, it seems. The San Francisco Bay Area is very liberal. Doesn't SoCal have some conservative pockets> I heard that * was advertising there. Oh well, I guess we should just be glad our state is said to be "safe."

5. C-Span has
quite a few of his policy speeches, rallies, and an interview or two. And Democracy Now has an audio of his FRC testimony from 1971. I listen to something every day over the net ... it sooths my frazzled nerves. Dana ; )

9. I agree
Are the ads making it to the average viewer where you live? Is the local media covering Kerry's campaign and speeches? I just think, realistically, that the average person is not going to log into his website to view his commercials, no matter how great you and I think they are.

11. I am in a swing state
so we are getting lots of ads. The local media and the statewide paper cover his campaign every day ... and if you can believe it, it's very balanced coverage. Dana ; )

4. The press will pounce on Kerry
as soon as he gets negative. We have to set the record straight with our friends and neighbors about Bush's incompetence, secrecy and lies. If you really start talking to people, you'll be surprised to learn how many of them do not like Bush. We have to let them know that, contrary to the impression they get from the media, they are not alone.

6. I don't doubt
that the media will pounce, and that they favor *. But should we really let that totally intimidate us? I think our lack of counter attack hurt us in the 2000 elections, and will hurt us again. I just think that we COULD get more critical. It's all in how it's done. That's the what the donations are for-to hire the best advertising people who know how to do these things.

8. I live in Connecticut and I don't think
I've seen a Kerry ad. I guess cause CT usually goes DEM. See lots of Shrub ads though. I think they're awful. Negative.Negative.Negative. That's cause Shrub has nothing positive to say about his administration because they all fucked this whole thing up!

10. Yeah, what's he gonna run on?
Iraq? The economy? Jobs? It's all a mess. I don't like to hear that Kerry is writing off Conneticut though, especially if * is running negative ads there.
