CBS to embarrassed by the Putin story to even mention it
Edited on Fri Jun-18-04 05:45 PM by demdem
I guess they even find this story laughable.

So let me get this straight, Putin now says Iraq wanted to attack U.S. after 911. Even after saying this in 2003(http://www.abc.net.au/news/newsitems/200312/s1013128.htm

"We do not want the United States to lose their war on terrorism - we are US partners in the fight against terrorism," Mr Putin said.

"But as for Iraq, this is a separate matter. There were no international terrorists under Hussein. This is a separate problem," he said.)

Putin tells Bush this soon after 911 and Bush never uses this to justify the attack on Iraq.

So let me set the scene. Rove and Bush are sitting in the oval office before the 2002 State of the Union.

Bush--We need to come up with a link between Iraq and 911.

Rove--We'll we have three choices, we can lie and say Iraq has WMD's or we can lie and say Saddam had ties to Alqaeda or we could go with the truth and say what Putin told us that he has info that Iraq wanted to attack the U.S. after 911.

Bush-- Let's go with the two lie's the public will never believe the truth.

What did Bush have to promise Putin for this lie, Maybe some debt relief, maybe a few hookers the next time he is in Washington. I find this whole idea that iraq was going to attack us laughable, What were they going to attack us with pea shooters? they as we know have no significant weapons.

2. This story just screams "fabrication!"
After all, they'd have used it to justify the invasion had it been around when they said it was.

It wasn't.

3. Putin just wants the US to support his genocide against their Muslims.
One evil deed deserves another.

5. Yeah, weird.....
It's meaningless unless you know what kind of information he was passing along. Was it any better than the stuff the Brits and CIA were coming up with?

Putin also made supportive noises toward Bush a week ago at the big gathering. Something like, 'Democrats shouldn't criticize Bush on Iraq'.

Bizarre. Meddling in American politics?
