Homeschooled kids at conference slam Bush - 2nd year in a row.
Wednesday, the Southern Baptist Convention of Ministers(a conservative group) strongly recommended that people pull their kids out of public schools and homeschool their kids. Apparently, this group has forgotten what can happen when kids get an education (as opposed to whatever they are doing in the schools).

Last year at a homeschool conference in Pasadena, the homeschooled kids produced a special edition of a homeschooling news talking about how American kids were opposed to Bush, the Iraq War and the use of depleted uranium.

This year, the kids at the conference again put together a special edition of the homeschool newspaper with articles talking about the conservative media, the need to stop using fossil fuels and the unjust way people are being treated in the world. One article called Dennis Kucinich the candidate the media most feared. The first two articles (the longest two in the paper)included positive reviews of "The Day After Tomorrow" and one praised Michael Moore for "Fahrenheit 9/11" and really slammed Michael Eisner. The writer of the media article also discussed the biased coverage of Padilla and Cooper and of elections. In the same article, the media coverage received by the Clinton sex scandals was compared with the media coverage received by the rape lawsuit filed by Margie Shoedinger against Bush. These kids certainly have more courage than adult writers. The writers of the first two articles made comments about the fake Berg beheading tape. Reportedly, most of the kids at that conference were decidedly anti-Bush though the conference involved both Christian and secular homeschoolers.

1. This is why I hate the steriotypes about Homeschooling. There are some
very good reasons to do so. And, there are some very great, open minded liberal parents who do.

2. This surprises me
All the homeschoolers I have met have been very close minded and conservative (I admit, I have only met half a dozen or so). Maybe this is a sign of bigger things.

3. "Homeschooling" takes many forms
My daughter has had only minimal contact with public school since 8th grade. We merely facilitated her education through other means - some call it unschooling,

She will be going to Sweetbriar College in Va this year. As soon as she gets back from Boston, where she will be a page for the Washington delegation at the convention.

4. Whether parents are "conservative" or "liberal," it seems that
homeschooled children end up having an advantage over other children regardless of the views they hold.

This is the first time I've heard of homeschooled children having more liberal views. Perhaps homeschooled children are much more diverse than has been depicted in the media....

5. MANY homeschooled kids
are the product of liberal, counterculture families who don't want their kids to be homogenized and turned into cogs of the system.

6. The end result of homeschoolers' learning critical thinking skills
Naturally if they develop those skills better than public school students, they will become liberals.
