My letter from Marcus Theaters re: Fahrenheit 911
I wrote to the theater chain and asked if they were planning on showing the film. This was their response:

Thank you for contacting Marcus Theatres, Guest Service and giving us the
opportunity to respond to your email. In your email you wanted to know if
Marcus Theatres plans on showing "Fahrenheit 9/11."

The decision to play this movie at our theatres is currently undecided. Our
President and Film Bookers have yet to screen this feature and will not make
a decision until they have the chance to later this week.

Thanks for taking the time to contact us about this feature and I will
forward your email of interest to the appropriate individuals in our
organization. All of our theatres do their bookings for the upcoming
weekend on Monday's and this information would be posted on our website
Monday night or Tuesday sometime.

I apologize for not being able to give you more information. We appreciate
your interest in Marcus Theatres.

I think it would be a good idea for everyone to send them a note encouraging them to show it.

For what it's worth, the Marcus family is a conservative bunch. That doesn't mean they won't shy away from making $$$.

3. I've never known a film booker to watch a movie...
...before it was released. They usually buy based on buzz, advertising, and trade publications. If they "haven't decided yet" then it's probably because they're going to wait a week or two and see if F911 lives up to its expectations in other theater chains first.

4. I wonder if their president screens all films
before they make a decision to show them? Somehow I doubt it. They are actually considering censoring a film based on one person's opinion. That is not right. The decision should be made by the viewing public, not the boss.

There comes a point when we need to stop being nice to these Nazis. I don't want to have to get on my knees and beg every time I want to see a film. This is supposed to be America where information and expression are guaranteed to flow freely.

9. Right on!
"Our president hasn't had a chance to see the new Adam Sandler movie yet, so we're not sure if we're going to show it."

Total BS!

10. Censorship
Wrote them and told them I wanted the right to see this movie as well as movies with dissenting view points. Told them we don't need more censorship and hope they won't pull a cowardly act like CBS did with the Reagan TV film.

13. I agree, but it's a double edged sword....
Did You write to theatres encouraging them to show the Passion?

14. I can't answer for goddess40, but . . .
No, I didn't write to theaters encouraging them to show The Passion, but nor did I write to tell them not to.

I am writing to theaters about F911 because of all of the the organized letter writing efforts to block it's showing.

15. Letters ain't gonna block squat
Theatres want to make cash. More Contraversy means more people will see it. Michael Moore is a master of this principle and Mel Gibson learned of it too. People that would boycott a chain because of this have probably already been boycotting movies since all that "witchcraft" in Fantasia hit the screen anyway. So unless Clear Channel owns a theatre chain, I wouldn't sweat it.

It works wonders.

Are we talking about the "R" rating vs "PG-13?"
