I've decided that Ann Coulter is the Marilyn Manson of punditry.
Her whole schtick is just an act. Ske knows that shock value is really the only thing she has going for her, so she'll just lay it on as thick as she possibly can. And just like people don't take Manson that seriously anymore, so will they eventually grow tired of Ann Coulter's forced bitchery.

3. I agree 100%. Without her schtick, she's nothing.
Her act sells books and gets her on television. That's the only thing important to her. A desperate fear of being irrelvant.

4. Well, I groan tired of her.
I do not see how she continues to speak out on issues, because when ever she speaks she is hardly ever fact based. Plus, some of her comments are completely off the wall, especially the Max Cleland comment. She should have been fired!

5. I must have missed her Max Cleland comment.
What did she say?

11. Here it is!
Coulter countered that Cleland is no Vietnam war hero, just a victim of a tragic, accidental grenade explosion who plays up his amputations for political gain.

“If Cleland had dropped a grenade on himself at Fort Dix rather than in Vietnam, he would never have been a U.S. Senator in the first place. Maybe he’d be the best pharmacist in Atlanta,” Coulter said in her column, published on February 11.

“He didn't ‘give his limbs for his country,’ or leave them ‘on the battlefield,’” Coulter said. “There was no bravery involved in dropping a grenade on himself with no enemy troops in sight.”

10. He's made a couple of good songs...
but people in middle-America don't really pay that much attention to him anymore, do they?

And I agree that Manson has talent. He's extremely good at getting people to buy into his act, just like Coulter gets people to buy into hers.

12. Who buys into Coulter's act?
Even the Cons are mostly embarassed by her. If this was seventeenth century England, she'd be the ranting village madwoman.

14. Tons of people buy into it.
She's on Hannity and Colmes at least once a month it seems, and her books sell really well, so there are obviously some people who really believe what she's saying. And even if this were 21st century America, she'd still be the ranting village madwoman.

16. I Agree
He's a smart guy, smart enough to know that his time was limited, as where Coulter could go on and on.

She'll keep writing vile books and wingnuts will keep shelling out money for her same old shit.

15. AC is the best thing that ever happened to the Dems
I wish she would become the lead spokesman for the pukes. Get her on TV as much as possible. She's a raving lunatic and will scare the swing voters right into Kerry's arms.

17. This post is unfair to Manson
My take is that Manson's act while played for shock value, runs counter to his real sensibilities.

You would imply that Coulter is really a liberal whose act is a cynical facade of her real feelings. In fact Coulter is a real Nazi with a tendency toward hyperbole. When she does her act she really means it.

19. I'm not saying Coulter is a liberal...
although that might explain why she seems so eager to hurt her cause. No, I meant that she exaggerates her claims to get people's attention. By saying things like "All liberals are guilty of treason" and "Bill Clinton doesn't believe in God or America" she's just trying to get the attention of those who disagree with her. I think she's a genuine conservative, but not as maniacally so as she would have us believe. Just like with Manson: he's a smart guy and a liberal, but you couldn't really tell that from seeing his act. By ripping up a Bible and rubbing his balls on a security guard's head, he's just exaggerating how "hard core" he is. If you watch his interview in "Bowling for Columbine" he makes some really excellent points, because he's not portraying the character he plays on stage. The problem with Ann Coulter is that she doesn't seem to realize that people would take her more seriously if she were to tone down the rhetoric a little bit.

24. No disagreement
For all it matters, I'm just pointing out that there is a lack of congruence in the Manson/Coulter comparison.

It seems that Manson's outrageousness IS his act. Coulter is a proponent of an evil agenda.

20. What's interesting to me is that she has a voice in the mainstream
media.

Whether she's there as a novelty or not, the woman gets booked on the Today Show.

22. She gets booked on the Today Show for the same reason
that people slow down when they drive past a car accident. There's a sense of morbid curiosity about watching her talk, because you never know what she might say. WHICH IS EXACTLY WHAT SHE WANTS!!

I don't care for his music, but he is a kickass free speech advocate, is intelligent, is articulate.
