A Time Comes When Silence is Betrayal
A Time Comes When Silence is Betrayal

"A time comes when silence is betrayal. Men do not easily assume the task of opposing their government's policy, especially in time of war. We must speak with all the humility that is appropriate to our limited vision, but we must speak. For we are deeply in need of a new way beyond the darkness so close around us... We are called upon to speak for the weak, for the voiceless, for the victims of our nation, for those it calls enemy, for no document from human hands can make these humans any less our brothers."

- Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. 1967, Riverside Church in New York City

1. Thank Goodness Michael Moore Is Speaking

I realized something last night while driving a work colleague home. A democrat, supportive of Kerry, chuckled when I mentioned F911 - saying that Roger and Me was a little over the top.

I realized that even with Democrats, we need to promote the F911 movie and all that is in it - because some democrats won't take Moore seriously. I finally said, good thing Moore doesn't care what people think of him, because he is taking so much heat for this movie - which has alot of video in it showing what Bush did or didn't do, and what those around him did or didn't do.

2. So true

Too many of these around

Questioning the government is not treason, giving voice to our concerns is not betrayal.

3. Quote
"When Hitler came for the Jews... I was not a Jew, therefore, I was not concerned. And when Hitler attacked the Catholics, I was not a Catholic, and therefore, I was not concerned. And when Hitler attacked the unions and the industrialists, I was not a member of the unions and I was not concerned. Then, Hitler attacked me and the Protestant church — and there was nobody left to be concerned."

Pastor Martin Niemoller, Congressional Record, October 14, 1968 (Vol. 114, p. 31636)

4. More quotes

Martin Luther King Jr. (1929 - 1968)

"Silence propagates itself, and the longer talk has been suspended, the more difficult it is to find anything to say."
Samuel Johnson (1709 - 1784)

"Oppression can only survive through silence."
Carmen de Monteflores

5. Silence IS complicity.
As a black child who grew up in a predominantly white enviroment, please allow me to share with you the utterly insanity-producing pain of being the target of OVERT RACISM from an "outsider" and watching my near and dear ones provide knee-jerk "cover." Oh, he's really a nice guy underneath, or YOU are just too sensitive... Funny how the common thread was NO ONE being able to look me in the eye as these phrases were uttered...
