I am watching Charlie Rose on PBS. Some neoliberal propagandist is pushing a conversion of Europe to American-style "free market" corporate capitalism. It is the standard TINA (There Is No Alternative) neoliberal line about how all those decadent EU economies, with their union power and their welfare states, and their universal healthcare, are all about to collapse, unless of course they make like the USA lickety-split.

Lately I have seen a string of similar neoliberal pitchmen for "Free Market" corporate propagandists on his show, just unleashing unchecked burst of neoliberal-speak, all without the SLIGHTEST hint of a critical question from Rose. Rose is nothing more than a facilitator for this crap. He is NOT a journalist in any sense whatsoever.

What the hell has PBS become.

1. What is the definition of "neoliberal"?
I have never come across this term before. Did you coin it? If not, where did you come across it?

3. I use that word a lot on the internet because it is unknown in the USA

...for the most part, Americans have no knowledge of the word. And that is ironic, as America is the center of global neoliberalism. Neoliberalism is very basically defined as "economic liberalism" by some definitions. It might be embodied by the "Golden Rule"--those who have the gold makes the rules.

Here are some words/phrases that are closely associated with neoliberalism:

-globalism
-competition among workers for jobs
-low taxes
-small government
-corporate capitalism
-weak welfare state
-outsourcing
-3rd world immigration

You can google the term for better definitions.

In the Reagan years he had a show on network TV and nite after nite he had Reagan shills on. He pitched softball and it was just as bad as anything now. Check his underwriters. it should be interesting.

5. He lets on Perle and Wolfowitz and
just let them sit there and spew, but when
he has somebody on that is the slightest bit
critical of the war he interrupts and he
belittles and he spouts the Bush party line.
(No examples come to mind--Michael Moore, maybe,
or Tony Kirshner.)

Yuk.
