He has been buried for almost a week now, time to raise the flags
to the full staff. Is it every where or only in the NW suburbs of the Twin Cities that the flags are still flying at half staff?

You have shown your respect for Reagan, how about a respect for the flag?

1. 30 days
is the typical period. Jimmy Carter and Bill Clinton will get the same treatment.

4. Two more weeks?
Seems like overkill to me, but I was definitely wondering why all the flags are still stuck at half staff. Did Nixon get the 30-day treatment?

6. yes
all presidents get 30 days. Vice-Presidents get 10 days. It's actually codified:

9. Thanks, I did not know that. I always thought that flags should be
tied down for the night but you say many that fly them day and night, and many are tattered but, hey..

10. well
they can fly at night if illuminated.

And yes, many are tattered. That just means people don't follow the proper etiquette.

12. A time to McMourn - oped Press Enterprise
Thursday, June 17, 2004

DAN BERNSTEIN

A McDonald's flag in San Bernardino flies at half-staff, right alongside the red, white and blue. The monstrous Park-N-Fly banner near the Ontario airport waves shoulder-to-shoulder with the equally monstrous, half-staff Stars and Stripes.

(snip)

But I doubt the laws and protocol covering the payment of final respects to our presidents ever envisioned a circumstance in which the identities of Ronald Reagan and Ronald McDonald would become so intimately entwined.

Then again, can there be any clearer sign that freedom has prevailed over tyranny? That the fast-food empire has vanquished the evil one?

(snip)

I guess it's up to the beholder to determine whether a half-staff flag invoking a burger, parking lot, self-storage unit or any other commercial enterprise enriches the memory of a leader or demeans it. Personally, I see no real harm or financial ruin in folding up these flags o' commerce and stowing them until July 5, when we resume flag-waving as usual.
