number of screens of Michael Moore movie vs. "Day After Tomorrow"
Edited on Thu Jun-17-04 08:15 PM by Eric J in MN
The new Michael Moore movie will open on about 400 screens next Friday.

"The Day After Tomorrow" is now playing on 3,210 screen.

Does that make sense?

Are there really 8 times as many people who want to see "The Day After Tomorrow" as want to see the new Michael Moore movie?

I saw "The Day After Tomorrow," but I'm more interested in the Michael Moore movie.

1. remember
that Bowling For Columbine, the most succesful documentary in history, only played on 248 screens at its PEAK. It opened on far fewer.

2. We just saw the F911 trailer when we saw "Day after Tomorrow"
The audience really cracked up seeing the trailer. Powerful stuff.

BTW, Day after Tomorrow was hell of a roller coaster ride. Fun to watch. Great F/X!

4. Yes and yes
Remember that a good number for a documentary is the mid $20M and Day After did that in one day. The masses aren't going to see F911. Basically the movie is going to play for those who already support its position.

6. I agree
and I saw "the day after tommorow" and it was awful!!! Awful awful awful!!!

I think it has to do more with the fact that it is Micheal Moore's movie, and big business doesn't support him. If any other movie had the buzz that this one does, it'd be playing everywhere!!

So far the only good movie I've in seen in theathers this year is Harry Potter. I saw Donnie darko for the first time, and wow, now thats a good movie. Its being rereleased, but it getting the same treatment as F911:eyes:

7. Where did you get 400?
Last I read, F911 was opening on over 1,000 screens.

I'm sure I read that here at DU, and it was linked to a news report.

9. That sounds great for a documentary.
Put all politics aside for a minute and just think about how much publicity and acclaim this movie has received and how much money was made by Bowling for Columbine. You have to admit it's a pretty extraordinary amount of attention for a documentary.

10. It is showing on the AMC theatres in VA now, and it wasn't
last week. I'm so excited; can't wait to see it right in my neighborhood! AMC was one of the theatre groups that were considering screening last week; perhaps all those emails we sent out changed their mind.
