I keep hearing about one gas company after another as a business I should boycott. Is there a consensus on which gas company is better than the others?

3. The gas, and the gas station are two different issues
There's no way to just buy one 'type' of gas (such as from one location rather than another). All the petroleum of each grade gets mixed together down at the storage facilities, so the actual gasoline and diesel that get delivered to gas stations comes from all over.

Gas stations are either owned outright by a big oil company, franchised by that company, or independent.

I personally patronize either the neighborhood independent gas station/convenience store, because I want it to stay in business, or the Citgo/Stop&Go franchise a mile away because Citgo is owned by the government of Venezuela.

4. Alright.
So Shell trumps Exxon, but Citgo trumps Shell. I'm going for Citgo, whenever I can. But what about Amoco?

5. I pay a little extra and go to an independent guy on my corner.
Once he told me how the idependents get their gas -- I understood it to be kind of bargain priced leftover gas from the big companies. In other words, same gas, but less profit for them, more profit for my pal on the corner.
