Was anyone else just watching CNN?
They showed and played all the transmissions from AA and the planes etc,... and they are talking about the plane in pa being shot down. I am not sure if I am understanding everything I am hearing.

1. That was pretty chilling
A controller figured out there was more than one plane.

Those transmissions were eerie.

31. I remember some of the people who claim the plane
flew over their neighborhood and ran out on their deck, patio, etc.; saw a smaller, white plane that shot down the plane over Pennsylvania. They were immediately discredited and told what do they believe. . . their lying eyes or the truth from their Government.

died of cancer in prison, and that we had no pre-warning about Pearl Harbor, and that the Bay of Pigs didn't happen, and that George Bush was voted into office, and Ronald Reagan was the greatest president of our time, and Bill Clinton was impeached because he lied about a question he shouldn't have been asked in the first place.

I have pre-ordered his book btw.

I did hear them say that by the time NEADS - not sure what the acronym means but it's the military in upstate NY - could look for 93 it had already crashed.

I wonder why they (NEADS) couldn't find it on radar for so long.

10. NPR just finished their story on it...
...no talk of a shootdown. In fact they said that the order to shoot down, which interestingly enough came from the vice-president not the president, was not made until the events were over. CNN may have just been trying to create viewers for later broadcasts.

4. Not watching CNN, keep us posted
But frankly, I think the airliner in PA WAS shot down, except the story of the "heroic" passengers overpowering the hijackers makes for a better story.

In fact, in a way I HOPE it was shot down. What the hell does our having a powerful air force do us if we can't stop a commercial airliner within our borders. Otherwise, combined with the lack of action in NYC and the Pentagon our air defense looks like an absolute joke.

55. Confusion remains about the role of passengers
I was kinda sort surprised to hear a reprise of the "passengers forced the plane down to save others" story. I thought the FBI concluded many months ago that they did not believe the passengers made it into the cockpit.

But I suppose I should not be surprised that myths should prevail over actual facts....

Of course, whatever happened does not detract from the heroic attempt of the passengers to wrest the plane from the control of the creeps who hijacked it. But my understanding was that it was very far from clear, and that there was evidence to conclude that they did not manage to penetrate the cockpit.

7. Listen to Randi Rhodes right now
She's talking about it too.

She's making me laugh ('cause you have to laugh or scream). She's mocking how the fighter pilots didn't seem to get off the ground. Her imagined conversation:

"The order to shoot down passenger jets came from the VP."

"Why? Do you think the President might have been hit?"

"I don't know, should we scramble jets?"

"I dunno, maybe we should wait."

"Anyway, what do you want for lunch? I'm starving. Breakfast wasn't enough, I just had the fruit plate...."

This shouldn't be funny, but it is.

8. I didn't hear them saying the plane was shot down.
Just that the plane was down. Another interesting thing from the report, concerning scrambling fighter jets. The reporter was talking about Bush* sitting in the classroom when the first plane hit, and then contacting Cheney to give the order to shoot down any hostile civilian aircraft (aircraft heading for D.C.). He then said that Cheney relayed the order, but by the time he contacted the military, it was too late.

So, WTF is going on here? I don't know if the reporter got it right, but why was bush calling Cheney to call the military to scramble the jets? I thought that the president was the commander in chief and wouldn't he be the one to call the brass? It just adds another layer of cluterfuckedness to this whole thing. Or, it reinforces the notion that Bush* can't make any decisions without consulting Cheney first. Even when time is of the essence and action is needed IMMEDIATELY. What a bunch of idiots.

21. I posted earlier about the veep relaying the order...
...to clarify: NPR did say that Cheney was relaying the order down through Rumsfeld, who was out of the loop in some capacity so the order did not reach Rumsfeld in a timely fashion. Anyway Cheney should in no way be in this loop. The chain of command follows Bush to Rumsfeld in military matters. Cheney is not in the COC. I wonder if Bush is just too damns stupid and was too damn scared and was too damn busy protecting his own lying thieving yellow ass to have taken the time to be concerned about his fellow americans so Cheney just took the initiative. Thoughts on this?

15. Col Donn de Grand-pre
From prisonplanet.com

http://www.prisonplanet.com/022904degrand.html

The guy de Grand-pre has already written about this, and names the AF unit that shot Flt 93 down, nicknamed the Happy Hooligans. He says that he has spoken directly with the pilots involved.

I remember vaguely the Cheney back on Sept 11, said that planes were shot down, but I can't find a link.

19. Rumsfeld was bypassed was the news today
Cheney gave the order, which in the chain of command should have been Rumsfeld.

Then Rumsfeld called Cheney to see WTF and there are tapes.

Cheney told Rumsfeld he gave the shoot down order, and he also thought that fighters had shot something down.

Rumsfeld said he hadn't heard from pilots that they shot something down.

That's the story with the tapes from the hearing today. (Links in LBN).

The CNN story sounded very detailed--hope they rerun, was doing 10 different things while it was on.

I do not remember any problems communicating via cellphone that day. I still lived in Springfield, MO then. My boyfreind had gone to St. Louis that day, and I spent a lot of time cell to cell with him. In fact, I am the way all the people with whom he was meeting learned of the incident.

I called him several times about the breaking news, and he called and told me about the insanity at gas stations that day. We exchanged a lot of rumors. Didn't seem to have any problems.
