Everyone at DU must be prepared to have an embolism.
Edited on Wed Jun-16-04 11:58 PM by grendelsuncle
The next two months will be brutal for some of us. The mainstream media, which we here clearly understand to be ignorant (if not complete whores) of the details, are about to be inundated with attackes from the right.

My record: please just check some of my posts (if they're in the archives). I promise you that I have a couple of friends who are repub. insiders (grammar checkers and what-not). I get to see faxes, memos, all the goodies that are floated around for preliminary ideas--some of which are garbage and never used (I mentioned the use of "Space Cowboy" when chimpy was pushing the Mars exploration--why, God, did you not let this happen?).

The media is about to be attacked ferociously (more so than ever before). Ollie North was reading LITERALLY from the playbook. He didn't change a word. "Blood on their hands" when referring to the media will be a, perhaps the, montra. And somemone, maybe even Ollie, has been told to take lumps for the team. They will make these outrageous accusations so that they will get face time. They will make this messanger the issue and not the message, hoping the whores will cower. I guess we'll see. But the media will be blamed.

Here's a snippet from an email I have been allowed to share:

"The news outlets will be different this time from Viet Nam. They don't want to be accused of being unAmerican. So make the charge, implicitly or explicitly, depending on your venue, as often as possible. We know from experience that the television media will fold when confronted. You must massage the print media; with some exceptions."

I have never seen anything like this, and I have been looking at these things for a couple of years. This is serious. This is a liability to them. They need it to go away. Their polling shows that scaoegoating the media, a la Viet Nam (a HUGE voting bloc that remembers the old meme), works.

We'll see.

2. Counter attacking using their tactics ...
One of their tactics is going to be to call the media un-American and un-patriotic. They're right ... by not questioning the White House, by not questioning the right wing on critical issues they're abrogating their duty as Americans to stand up for the good of the nation. We should begin immediately pushing that with call-ins so that we can take the issue away from the neocons.

7. You're right on it...
I just may have an embolism...(I'm a pretty weary old broad) but the tactics we use have to be equal to the task.

Writing campaigns to news outlets, print and televison and radio.

I especially like the tactic of CALL IN SHOWS. Use those a lot. Everyone who listens to a show will hear you. C-span, in the mornings (Journal) is an excellent choice among many.

These snakes in power are the worst. They lie, they cheat, they twist the facts, they spin, they threaten........... we can't let them get away with this. We just cannot. We will be toast if we let them do whatever they want without putting up a fight.

I listened to the senate this morning. I forget which two senators were speaking but the subject matter was about the economy and all of the rethug's recent dirty tricks toward our workers (zip OT etc.). Our side presented a coherent argument/complaint. The other side just Glossed over everything our man said like it never happened and spun the issue into la la land. I just wanted to be there and stand up to yell LIAR!!!! To be there to rebut what this old joker was twisting so the record reflected just how he was jerking us off. Geeeez

4. Bush not about to give up the Presidency even with the mandate of the vote
Bush will do anything to keep the Presidency. He will use chicanery to attempt to make the election appear legal if he can. Even if he can't, he will still do whatever it takes, legal or illegal.

The best that I am hoping for is that the news media continues to predict a close election with the President winning a squeaker. At least then the elections may have a decent chance of playing out.

If the Bush's re-election chances appear totally hopeless, we might then be in a world of trouble. Marial law might get declared, or who knows what might happen in order for him to keep the Presidency.

However it plays out, things are going to get very nasty.

6. if they want to fight, I say we fight.
If they attack us, we should attack them back, ten-fold.

We should go after them, find out where they work, find out where they live, and let them know that THEY are the un-american traitorous scumbags.

Bullies cannot deal with fear. They are bullies. They need to realize that someone out there will hold them accountable and will PUNISH them for their crimes.

8. Well said...where are the morning DEM fax blasts?
We know the Repugs do it EVERY MORNING to radio stations around the country, to news outlets everywhere.

We need organization. That is what the DNC has NOT been getting for the past 10 years. It's more than unions. It's true grassroots BATTLE for the votes of the sheeple of the nation, named so becuase they don't think about issues and candidates on their own, who will decide this election based on WHAT THEY ARE TOLD.

17. "Morning Fax Blasts"!
Exactly the right idea! We have been lax and complacent, and it has worked to our great disadvantage.

There are some DUers who have made a pledge to spend 15 minutes everyday making calls/writing letters. Not much expenditure of time, but gets results.

Please, click on calimary's media contact list link above, and remember the number to call:
800-8839-5276

We have the numbers of people, if we just get in the habit of making these calls, and writing these letters... it *will* have an affect.

9. If you care about your country,
...then you will expose the whole memo. If not to us, here, then at least to someone such as the editor of Editor & Publisher magazine, or someone at Air America or SOMEONE.

We are in the fight of our lives. Our very democracy is at stake.

Do you think for an eyewink that THEY would hold back such an important tool?

Release the memo. Do it. Do it. It's the right thing to do.

....a friend of mine who is a city editor on a medium-size daily newspaper told me today that a mailing list of journalists has been infiltrated by a stooge of some kind who has been taking notes on Bush-bashing in the emails.

They're going to play gutterball.

Don't let them take the advantage.

A Testimonial from a fellow DUer here:

IF YOU REALLY WANT TO DO SOMETHING...make a phone call or send a paper letter. E-mails are quick and cheap and don't carry the weight of a phone call or a PAPER LETTER. Paul Begala says a hundred paper letters would change the direction of a news program. – DUer grasswire, 5/20/04

Your link doesn't get us to that list. I'm not sure what to search for.

I believe a list like that should be part of the DU menu choices. Wonder if we can convince David to permit that.

19. Release it???
I think a good number of morning and afternoon talk shows already see these things (except for the really stupid faxes). These aren't White House memos. They're think tank memos/blast faxes. That's all. It's a fun for me to see a memo and thene listen to its contents (key words/phrases) get repeated all day long by the pundits. Trust me, the dems. do it too. The right, however, calls them on it explicitly ("Is that what the dem. talking points are today?"). Talking about dem. talking points out in the open is often a part of the repubs. faxes. They try to quash our message by pointing out that it's a coordonated message. These people are very well organized.

I can't cut and paste the entire faxes here: there are trolls, you know. And I am very good friends with the guy who lets me see them and would hate to see him lose his job. The chances are slim, but this is really unimportant stuff to take the chance.

10. If you really get all this stuff, then
you should remove any identifying information (for your friends' sake) and start a website to show what is really going on with the Republican Party. I know you may not get permission from your friends but information like this is crucial for all Americans to see what those in power are truly like. That is what I think.

13. I've been saying for quite some time
that the people currently in power got there in a coup, and they will never willingly relinquish that power. I can think of several ways they can steal the election, and I know I'm a total amateur at that kind of thing. They'll come up with tricks that will leave us breathless.

If all else fails, if they actually cannot control the vote counting and enough people really do vote for John Kerry, then they'll resort to a genuine military take-over.

I hope I'm wrong. I hope on November 3 we're all still here on DU, giddy with happiness and relief at what's happened.

Except. . . except it's a long time from November 3 to January 20.

18. What did Oliver North say?
How much attention is paid to him? As a lying snake who was lucky not to spend time in jail, I'd have thought his credibility is still low. Him accusing anyone of having 'blood on their hands' would seem particularly hypocritical - how can an arms dealer say that?

20. The PEOPLE will judge.....
Believe it or not...the war is going to be his downfall.

Let the media play up Bush all they want...the ugly truth about the war is going to becoming out....

There will be no reconcilable government there....it's a simple no win situation...how the hell can a government exist with 100,000 troops permanently occupying the country and doing anything thing they want (basically above any Iraqi law).

It's a joke.

But the real news will be coming back from those who return and tell the real story.

It was a masacre...pure and simple.
Talk about technology and talk about surgical this and that.
It was a slaughter.

2010 army against 1970 army with basically no airforce or ability to shoot anything back....

Do you remember the one guy saying after he flew over a battle area and looked down at the carnage how it was so surreal and almost impossible to believe the extent of this killing machine?

Is it any wonder that they've formed a sort of mindset that they were almost "less than human" in order to accomplish what they were doing?
Perhaps the ONLY way to do what these guys wanted was through the "shock and awe".

It'll all come out....and enough of it's out there already to swing enough people out from the pulling the lever for Bush. Once it really kicks in...then you'll have plenty of backing to pull the hell out altogether....

23. Howard Dean would be the ideal person to challenge this.
When this campaign begins, Howard Dean should begin a counter-campaign pointing out the truth -- which happens to be the exact opposite. The press has rolled over and played dead while this fascist regime has tried to manhandle the world and destroyed the American principals of fair play, honesty, reasoned strength and world cooperation.

24. O'Reilly, Rush, et al
I guess are laying the groundwork, eh? They complain about the prison abuse photos. They lay blame on a few troops, call them un- American, and then go to the REAL evil doers--the press who want to get Kerry elected. They say that printing stories and running the photos will give "aid and comfort" to the enemies. It gives them an excuse to decapitate hostages. Yes, they are coming unhinged.

The difference between the blame-the-media Viet Nam strategy and this time is that the right has an entire media/propaganda department to intimidate the various media outlets.

out there first. The public needs to be warned that this is a plan of theirs.

AND we will all need to work overtime - sending e-mail to the media - encouraging them.
