Charlie Daniels: An Open Letter To The Hollywood Bunch
( Notice old Charlie has nothing to say about the REPUBLICANS in Hollywood? Also note that he makes a direct connection between 9-11 and attacking Iraq.)

An Open Letter To The Hollywood Bunch

Ok let’s just say for a moment you bunch of pampered, overpaid,
unrealistic children had your way and the U.S.A. didn’t go into Iraq.

Let’s say that you really get your way and we destroy all our nuclear
weapons and stick daisies in our gun barrels and sit around with some
white wine and cheese and pat ourselves on the back, so proud of what
we’ve done for world peace.

Let’s say that we cut the military budget to just enough to keep the
National Guard on hand to help out with floods and fires.

Let’s say that we close down our military bases all over the world and
bring the troops home, increase our foreign aid and drop all the trade
sanctions against everybody.

I suppose that in your fantasy world this would create a utopian world
where everybody would live in peace. After all, the great monster, the
United States of America, the cause of all the world’s trouble would
have disbanded it’s horrible military and certainly all the other
countries of the world would follow suit.

After all, they only arm themselves to defend their countries from the
mean old U.S.A.

Why you bunch of pitiful, hypocritical, idiotic, spoiled mugwumps.
get your head out of the sand and smell the Trade Towers burning.
Do you think that a trip to Iraq by Sean Penn did anything but encourage
a wanton murderer to think that the people of the U.S.A. didn’t have the
nerve or the guts to fight him?

Barbra Streisand’s fanatical and hateful rantings about George Bush
makes about as much sense as Michael Jackson hanging a baby over a
railing.

You people need to get out of Hollywood once in a while and get out into
the real world. You’d be surprised at the hostility you would find out
here. Stop in at a truck stop and tell an overworked, long distance truck
driver that you don’t think Saddam Hussein is doing anything wrong.

Tell a farmer with a couple of sons in the military that you think the
United States has no right to defend itself.

Go down to Baxley, Georgia and hold an anti-war rally and see what the
folks down there think about you.

You people are some of the most disgusting examples of a waste of
protoplasm I’ve ever had the displeasure to hear about.

Sean Penn, you’re a traitor to the United States of America. You gave
aid and comfort to the enemy. How many American lives will your
little, ”fact finding trip“ to Iraq cost? You encouraged Saddam to
think that we didn’t have the stomach for war.

You people protect one of the most evil men on the face of this earth
and won’t lift a finger to save the life of an unborn baby. Freedom of
choice you say?

Well I’m going to exercise some freedom of choice of my own. If I see
any of your names on a marquee, I’m going to boycott the movie. I will
completely stop going to movies if I have to. In most cases it
certainly wouldn’t be much of a loss.

You scoff at our military whose boots you’re not even worthy to shine.
They go to battle and risk their lives so ingrates like you can live in
luxury.

The day of reckoning is coming when you will be faced with the
undeniable truth that the war against Saddam Hussein is the war on
terrorism.

America is in imminent danger. You’re either for her or against her.
There is no middle ground.

I think we all know where you stand.

What do you think?

God Bless America

Charlie Daniels

60. Music Row Democrats Fight Back!!
Earlier this year concerned people in the Country Music industry formed Music Row Democrats to combat the notion that everyone in our bidness is a right wing war monger. Janet Reno and her sister recently spoke to a large enthusiastic gathering on Music Row. The tide is turning- Tennessee has a Democratic governer. Bush is toast

12. Let's just say you haven't had a hit in years...
Let's just say you're an over-the-hill redneck with a level of talent that makes Billy Ray Cyrus look like Ludwig Van Beethoven.

Let's just say the only way you can stir up any press for your pitiful career is to put words in the mouths of people who actually care about this country.

Let's just say you're a sorry excuse for a human being who deserves what's coming to him when he takes that long elevator ride to a Miltonian panoply of horrors the likes of which even Hieronymous Bosch couldn't dream.

Let's just say nobody cares what you think--not even your beloved President, whom is in all likelihood utterly embarrassed by your very existence.

Let's just say that's all I have to say on the matter, Chuck.

1974: The CDB issues Way Down Yonder, which will be reissued in 1977 by Epic as Whiskey. Recording Fire On The Mountain, including “The South’s Gonna Do It Again”, which hits the Top 30 , and “Long Haired Country Boy,” which peaks at #56. Daniels decides to record several songs live in concert and chooses an auditorium in Nashville. In a nod to the Volunteer State, the CDB calls the concert the Volunteer Jam and invites friends from the Allman Brothers Band, the Marshall Tucker Band, and others to join them. “We had such a good time, we decided we should do this once in a while.”

23. Charlie, remember these lyrics?
Edited on Wed Jun-16-04 09:04 PM by Art_from_Ark
So I ordered up a beer and sat down at the bar
When some guy walked in and said, "Who owns this car
With the peace sign, the mag wheels and the four on the floor?"

He looked at me and I damn near died
And I decided that I'd just wait outside
So I laid a dollar on the bar and headed for the door

Just when I thought I'd get outta there with my skin
These 3 big dudes come strollin in
With one old drunk chick and some fella with green teeth

Now the last thing I wanted was to get into a fight
In Jackson Mississippi on a Saturday night
Especially when there was three of them and only one of me

I was almost to the door when the biggest one
Said, "You tip your hat to this lady, son!"
And when I did, all that hair fell out from underneath

They all started laughin and I felt kinda sick
And I knew I better think of something pretty quick
So I just reached out and kicked old green teeth right in the knee

Better check the color of your teeth, Charlie. Looks like they be turnin' green

Couldn't resist that. You are either with America or against her. Being for America is standing up for its constitution, the Bill of Rights, against pre-emptive or preventive war-the concept of tyrants, for a Democratic republic-not empire nor emperor nor one party rule, checks and balances of power, and the right of self rule and determination. So whats it going to be, fat redneck Charlie? Are you with America or with the rightwing radicals that are currently operating against our American ideals?

34. At least he had this to say about Ray Charles's passing:
A Genius Unheralded

With the death of President Reagan and all the well-deserved fanfare and pomp surrounding his funeral the death of Ray Charles was little more than boilerplate or also ran tid bits in the news.

I certainly believe that President Reagan should be afforded every honor this country can provide after all he did for the United States of America.

At the same time I really hate to see the death of one of America’s true musical giants be so soundly ignored by the media. So in my small way and in my small column I would like to pay homage to Mr. Ray Charles, musician extraordinaire.

Ray Charles was a genius pure and simple. His career spanned over a half century. His versatility was nothing short of amazing. He was one of the finest rhythm and blues artists of all times and his earlier recordings like “Mary Ann” on the Atlantic label are still classics till this day and his version of “What’d I Say” Parts One and Two was learned and performed by every bar band in the country.

Ray was also the consummate jazz musician. I knew he was a top
flight piano player but I never knew that he played another instrument until I was sitting in the audience at one of his concerts in El Paso, Texas and he walked on stage with an alto saxophone. But nothing Ray Charles did musically should have surprised me.

He turned a lot of heads at the Newport Jazz Festival with his hot, big band arrangements. America had discovered another side of the multifaceted Ray Charles.

One of the true milestones in American popular music came in the middle sixties when he recorded his “Modern Sounds in Country and Western Music” album. On this record his genius was in full bloom as he took the old classic country hits and gave them a whole new feel and emotion.

His versions of country torch songs were delivered with a
melancholy and a late night, bluesy feeling that could make you cry.

Ray had a lot of problems and heartache in his life and it all came out when he sang and his influence on two generations of musicians is undeniable.

I can see him now, sitting at a piano bench in his dark glasses nodding his head in time to the tune he was playing, pouring his heart out in a song.

I will remember you, Mr. Charles, and I pay respect and affection to your memory.

I will readily admit that you had an effect on my career and I’m so thankful and honored that I got to meet you.

Rest in peace, Ray Charles, icon and American treasure. You will be missed.

Stop this crap- picking on “Hollywood crowd”. You keep saying God bless America but you crap on free speech. I’m in the Naval Reserve and I’m ready to fight for OUR country- I like to think that America can take dissent- that’s what it’s all about. I think you would be happier in the Soviet Union where dissenters were jailed or maybe living in Afganistan under the Taliban where the religious leaders dictated what people could do or say. Look I’m not a hypocrite- keep saying what you believe, but try to respect the opinions of others without attacking them for who they are- whether rich and spoiled or poor and stupid we are all Americans.

He got about five minutes of airtime from that internet version of a beer fart, which came on the heels of a fine appearance on Conan O'Brien. I doubt that Conan will book him on the show again -- his core audience is the kind of urban hipster held in such deep contempt by the Uneasy Rider.

Smooth move, Charlie.

Edited on Wed Jun-16-04 09:49 PM by gulliver

<snip>

A poor girl wants to marry,
And a rich girl wants to flirt.
A rich man goes to college,
And a poor man goes to work.
A drunkard wants another drink of wine,
And a politician wants a vote.
I don't want much of nothin' at all,
But I will take another toke.

'Cos I ain't askin' nobody for nothin',
If I can't get it on my own.
If you don't like the way I'm livin',
You just leave this long-haired country boy alone.

I don't get this guy, but it's a good song.

112. Charlie didn't go to Nam, he wrote "Uneasy Rider" a hippie anthem, instead
Notice the time period, he was still young enough (b. 1936) to go to Vietnam. But he wrote "Uneasy Rider" which seems to be about a hippie encountering a bunch of squares or straight people in a small town. Bio first, then lyrics below
snip--

In 1969, at the urging of Johnston, Daniels moved to Nashville to find work as a session guitarist.
Among his more notable sessions were the Bob Dylan albums of 1969-70 Nashville Skyline, New Morning and Self Portrait. Daniels produced the Youngbloods’ albums of 1969-70 Elephant Mountain and Ride the Wind, toured Europe with Leonard Cohen and performed on records with artists as diverse as Al Kooper and Marty Robbins
Daniels broke through as a record maker himself with 1973's hit hippie song "Uneasy Rider." His rebel anthems "Long Haired Country Boy" and "The South's Gonna Do It" propelled his 1975 collection Fire on the Mountain to double-platinum status.
After recording for the Capitol and Kama Sutra labels, Epic Records signed him to its rock roster in New York in 1976. The contract, reportedly worth $3 million, was the largest ever given to a Nashville act up to that time.
http://www.cmt.com/artists/az/daniels_charlie/bio.jhtml

"Uneasy rider":
So I ordered up a beer and sat down at the bar
When some guy walked in and said, "Who owns this car
With the peace sign, the mag wheels and the four on the floor?"

He looked at me and I damn near died
And I decided that I'd just wait outside
So I laid a dollar on the bar and headed for the door

Just when I wthought I'd get outta there with my skin
These 3 big dudes come strollin in
With one old drunk chick and some fella with green teeth

Now the last thing I wanted was to get into a fight
In Jackson Mississippi on a Saturday night
Especially when there was three of them and only one of me

I was almost to the door when the biggest one
Said, "You tip your hat to this lady, son!"
And when I did, all that hair fell out from underneath...":

The devil went down to I-raq
He was lookin' for some oil to steal

DUers rosin up your bows and play your fiddles hard
Cause hell's broke loose in the US and the devil deals the cards
And if you vote you get this country back in full
But if you don't the devil gets your soul.

56. It was nice to be born in 1936
Charlie was a little to young to go to Korea and a little too old to be drafted for Vietnam, although he certainly could have VOLUNTEERED to serve in the military, but no! He was too busy doing his thing in the music business. He wraps his fat ass in the American flag because his audience eats it up and it helps him sell records and concert tickets. If it didn't, he wouldn't be doing it.

"You scoff at our military whose boots you’re not even worthy to shine. They go to battle and risk their lives so ingrates like you can live in luxury."

Give me a fucking break. The unfortunate troops that have gotten dragged into this war are battling cheap oil, not our freedom or Hollywood's. Actually Hollywood took a huge hit from 9/11. A lot of movies that had any funding from outside the US were cancelled or postponed indefinitely. Even films with all their funding from the US were cancelled or delayed for months because no one knew what was going to happen, and you don't spend millions of dollars making a movie if people are going to be afraid to leave their homes. Sure, the Hollywood people that have been very successful were able to live off their savings, but for a while there, no one was working - NO ONE.

Charlie should know that everyone in the entertainment business isn't filthy rich. He got more press from beating his patriotic drum than he's gotten in years, and he knows it. What a poser. He should hang out with Dennis Miller.

62. Mr Daniels, If you are reading this (yeah right)
let me respond to your Open Letter:

Dear Mr. Daniels

First of all sir, you call people in Hollywood pampered and overpaid for being in the entertainment industry and yet, I ask what job do you go to everyday that is any more heroic or prestigious than actors? I do not see you protecting our streets from criminals. I do not see you running into burning buildings saving people. When I look at you, I see an entertainer, and a very good one in my opinion. There is nothing wrong with that. I think entertainers have just as valid a job as software designers, airline pilots, engineers, and so on. We all have our place in society and if your job does not hurt people and is beneficial to society, then I say, "Thank You" for your work regardless of the title.

Next, you insinuate that everyone who disagrees with the current administration are pacifists. I am not, and neither are most democrats and progressives. Some are and I think that is their right as Americans to believe what they will. I accept that without judging them, unlike you sir. Yet, if we did certain things in the past, like not put troops in Saudi Arabia (which is a brutal monarchy who controls 25% of our oil imports; which also happens to be the Islamic holy land) in the first place or not treat Israel as our little brother who could do no wrong, then chances are Osama Bin Laden would never have declared a holy war against us. Thousands of people would still be alive today in the United States and tens of thousands around the Middle East would be on this Earth as well.

It seems sad that you would question innocent people like yourself before questioning those who were/are in charge, who helped facilitate these horrible acts within the U.S. and abroad. Not one progressive in Hollywood has the power to invade a country, move troops, enact sanctions, vote in the United Nation Security Council, or do any other action with the full weight of the U.S. Government. The people we elect have that power and must be held to a high scrutiny in exchange. I wish you actually do that and stop blaming actors for all of the worlds problems. It is like blaming German plumbers in the 1930's for the rise of the Nazi Party.

The United States have a history of sticking their noses in places that it doesn't belong for the past 50 years. Just look at Mujahideen in Afghanistan in the 70's, The contra killers in Nicaragua in the 80's, selling Chemical and Biological weapons to Saddam Hussein in the 80's after he had already used them in Iran and within his own country, against his own people, the support of the Ayatollah Khomeini in Iran in the late 70's, and so on. Ever since the United States became a Superpower after WWII, those in charge have deliberately forced their hand in global politics like a chess board. Sometimes it has turned out alright, but most times it has turned out in bloodshed. Blaming democrats and progressives for the September 11th attack on the United States is like blaming innocent Japanese-Americans for the attack on Pearl Harbor. It is without merit.

You think that those of us who disagree with the Neocons (that stands for Neo-Conservatives for those in-the-know; just look up PNAC and you will open up your eyes) about pre-emptively attacking a Sovereign nation without having a credible threat posed to us beforehand are kooks, nuts, spoiled, hypocritical and other colorful names. However, many of these cooks and nuts have actually researched documented history and are shocked about what they have found. All the information is there for you, you just have to Google for it. As much as Iraq was ruled by a horrible dictator, how many American lives is it worth to rid the country of one SSS dictator and replace it with a democratically elected fundamental Islamic ruler.

First, we were given "facts" that Saddam Hussein had ties with Al Queda and helped plan the September 11th attacks. Next, it was just that Saddam had large stockpile of outlawed Weapons of Mass Destruction with means to deliver them anywhere from Israel all the way to the United Kingdom and Unites States; along with a Nuclear Weapons program that could be functional in less than 2 years and result in a "mushroom cloud on American soil". Next, there was just outlawed stockpiles biological and chemical weapons. After that, there were just weapons programs that were going on. At this point, there is evidence that Saddam wanted these weapons programs to go on but didn't have the means to do so at the moment. Do you see a pattern arising here, sir? I wish more conservatives would as questions about our war with Iraq. Some are beginning to see the lies and deceit coming down from the top and the ineptitude and bias of the mass media in our country, but many are still idly living their lives without a care in the world. If you want to ask about who is living in a dream world, then I suggest you look in the mirror.

Also, I am quite bewildered about why you consider Americans who live in the "heartland" to be more honest, more true, and more patriotic then those who live on the coasts and in larger metropolitan areas. What automatically makes these individuals better people in your eyes. Is it because they share your political ideology? Is it because they are, on average, less educated and in turn, more susceptible to lies and bias from the mass media (which happen to be mostly controlled by conservative owners and executives). What makes a white, male farmer in Nebraska inherently a better American than a black lesbian from San Francisco? Nothing; that is exactly right. So your whole argument about middle-America being better isn't even a valid one, let alone a good one.

Many conservatives and some democrats sat back and sent young men and women into harm's way for reasons that don't even exist toady. At this point in time, well over 800 American soldiers have died in Iraq; most being combat-related. You call those who want to ask questions about why we went into war traitors. How is that possible if these so-called "traitors" want our boys and girls home instead of 3000 miles away where they can be safe and become productive members of our nation once again? Sir, Iraq did not attack us; Al Queda did. We want to fight our true enemy and not everyone else who looks similar.

Mr. Daniels, I ask that before you send out a letter criticizing a group of people, you should at least understand what their criticisms are and why they believe them. No one is asking you to believe everything that we believe in, but we do ask you to actually see for yourself what is really going on and not just jump on the bandwagon to criticize. With that, I take my leave and hope that some wisdom can come to you and those who are driving our country into the ground.

Sincerely,

A.B.B.

neoteric lefty

Come on Al

I don’t like Al Gore’s politics, I’ll readily admit it. I think he’s too concerned with snail darters and spotted owls and not concerned enough with the working people of this nation.

I know he probably considers the internal combustion engine
a bigger enemy of the U.S.A. as some of the lesser third world dictators but I at least thought that he was a rational and reasonable man.

Well his verbal discourse of the past few days has made me seriously question this opinion.

Accusing President Bush of being guilty of war crimes, calling Abu Ghirad , “Bush’s gulag,” accusing Bush of denying terrorists their due civil rights, saying that there was no connection between Saddam Hussein’s regime and terror and saying that the President had betrayed the American people.

Gore also claimed that Bush had abandoned a long and successful policy of containment in favor of preemption. Containment? Oh really?

There were five terrorist attacks on the U.S.A. during the Clinton- Gore watch which went almost totally unanswered, plus Saddam tossed the U.N. weapons inspectors out on their ears which also went unanswered by the Clinton-Gore administration.

Let's be objective here. He also has a big audience at the Sopchoppy Earthworm Festival.

92. To wax George Carlin
Is he an asshole, a jack off or a scumbag? Ah, therein lies the question. I go for complete and total scumbag. I challenge Charlie Daniels to go to downtown New York and sputter out this jingoistic neo-con blather. Then we will see what shape HE is in.

Of course the skeptic in me is right now tapping me on the shoulder telling me that this letter is some silly diatribe written in Charlie Daniels' name. Probably also put in the mouths of other redneck washed up has beens in other recensions.

93. An open post to Charlie Chickenhawk.
Hey Charlie,

Don't you think since this war is so important and since you didn't serve in Vietnam when you had the opportunity. Now might be a good time for you to make a sacrifice for the country you claim to love so much.
America is running up Huge deficits paying for the war that you think is so desperately needed. The Bush tax cut that has benefited you and other wealthy Dick Cheney Americans is eating away at the future of America's children. John Kerry has called for the Bush tax cut for the wealthy to be rolled back. Why don't you literally put your money where your big fat chickenhawk mouth is and support him. If you don't then don't try to lecture others about patriotism.

94. Q, this shit is ancient history by now.
How about something more recent from this southern-fried chickenshit?

Damn. And to think I used to listen to his records from the '70's.

102. I posted this...
...on a whim. Never thought it would get more than a couple responses. I was doing a search on another subject and came across this rant.

- It's interesting in that it reflects the kneejerk rants we've been hearing ever since 9-11. It shows that people care more about 'feeling patriotic' than truth or fairness.

98. Time for US to get a grip
These people cannot be reasoned with. We have to oppose them with everything we have, or they will destroy our country. Lift every voice and vote. And bring a friend or two.

Fat, stupid, racist, and irrelevant. This pathetic turd has no value to anyone or anything. He is a waste of oxygen that decent people could be breathing.

113. Well, that just proves that all he wants
is some attention. You couldn't possibly be sending money to Al Gore and turn around and support Dubya - no way, unless of course you don't have a clue what either one of them stands for, which is probably the case here. Charlie, get a computer and get on the internet; you'll learn sooooo much.
