Hats off to Nancy......Will Not Focus on politics!!
Edited on Sat Jun-12-04 09:05 AM by bluedog
Some of Mrs. Reagan's friends said they expected that she would be urged by Republicans to play a role at the party's convention in two months, or in Mr. Bush's re-election campaign. But friends said that the former first lady was unlikely to accept such partisan invitations.

"She will focus on the Reagan legacy and not partisan politics," said Kenneth Duberstein, who was chief of staff in Mr. Reagan's White House.

Casey Ribicoff, a friend of Mrs. Reagan's, and the widow of former Senator Abraham A. Ribicoff, who also suffered from Alzheimer's Disease, said that Mrs. Reagan would probably spend weeks responding to the outpouring of mail to her over the last few days.

"I have no doubt that Nancy will rest and sort things out," Mrs. Ribicoff said. "When reality sets in, that's when you become
exhausted."

bush isn't going to use her and I doubt she will allow Ronnie to be put on any monies or other mountains..........

1. I can't imagine she'll last very long. She's devoted her life to her
husband, and she's just heartbroken... people who love this much usually follow soon after. I figure less than 2 years. She's very frail.

3. I disagree ...
Yes: she is frail, but the stem cell issue seems to be a passion with her ... surely she is heartbroken, but she is alo relieved after a LONG period of worry and concern ... one could imagine her givin in to fate .... but the stem cell issue is her issue: would she give that up before she is done ? ..

I am glad for her and her family: this is finally over for them ..

I don't think she will last long either - she is 83 and frail and heartbroken....

2. I am trying to recall if any twentieth century former first lady
engaged in partisan politics after her husband's death.

With the exception of Eleanor Roosevelt, whose public life after FDR's death was not actually partisan, I can think of none.

Correct me if I am wrong.

Nancy is showing alot of class. My heart goes out to her.

And I'd bet a million bucks that fat old bitch Babs won't show nearly as much class.

5. LOL!
"that fat old bitch Babs", that really cracked me up!

I envision Nancy fighting for stem cell research. It appears to be a policy that is very dear to her heart. I think she will fight publicly for it, going against the chimp if she has to.

She started already when she spoke with Michael J. Fox and I think Ron jr. further opened the door yesterday with his remarks about his fathers religion. I was quite shocked at the open jab to the chimp but pleased nonetheless!

13. I think Nancy , "Just say NO" Scammer, is waiting for the Reviews

I quit watching anything beyond the "private moment" when the stage director had her put her ear to the casket to see if Bonzo was actually dead.

"Private moment", my butt. The whole week turned out to be a BSRNC '04 Production. Deciding who could, or could not, speak at the State Funeral was another gutter point for all of them.

I'm glad the damn thing is over.

7. The role of women in US society has changed so much
The role of women in US society has changed so much over the past thirty years, that looking to history isn't necessarily a good predictor.

No former Presidential candidates wives were elected to the US Senate for 200 years.

Now Elizabeth Dole and Hillary Clinton are both US Senators.

11. Babs, stepped right off
the Quaker oats box. She is crass and a loud mouth and is wearing the penis in that family for sure. I think Nancy Reagan doesn't like her.

10. Babs Bush (who, I noticed, is looking especially cronelike these days)...
Has, I guess, a "literacy is important" cause or some such thing. But you have to pretend to be compassionate about reading and education while your husband's and son's administrations are slashing the funding to Head Start.
