So, what are our "shared goals"?
Edited on Thu Aug-14-03 05:02 PM by batman
The general rules state progressives are welcome here if they adhere to our 'shared goals.'

Somebody clarify?

2. General equality of opportunity?
Some people will always go to better schools or have more options than others, but to the extent we can level the playing field - anti-discrimination/segregation laws, decent school funding nationwide, dencent health care and nutrition for those that might otherwise be without it...

I'm sure there's more shared goals, that's the first that came to my mind.

4. Yea the DU Board...
It would help clarify things for me. What does DU mean by 'shared goals?'

For example my #1 goal personally is Bush outta the WH in 04.

6. Toss * out in 2004. Stop the RW incursion. All else is secondary.
If there's anyone here who doesn't have -- as a TOP priority -- the removal from power of the PNAC gang and *, then they're on the wrong Web site.

Another common goal should be stopping the varied and sundry other attacks on our freedoms by the right wing, such as the current coup attempt in California.

10. I agree, but not so sure others do??
From what I hear anyhow?? I guess it might be helpful for DU to determine what shared goals are?

I like the idea of 'equality' as a goal also. The RW divides the classes and that's an issue 'furshure'...

11. very good question
I've been wondering, too.

And as a newbie, I'm very curious about what this place was like back in the day... Who made the rules?

13. i think
the shared goals mean
1. blindly worshipping the democratic party above all
2. reactionary politics instead of proactive.
3. rationalizing the pathetic failures of politicians.
4. pretending that anything will change in our lifetime.

1. Blindly worshiping Ralph Nader

2. Voting for a person who's never served in public office and claiming he's 'pro-active.'

3. Voting for a man who calls (choice, the womans movement, and gay/lesbian issues) "gonadal politics" and at the same time calling him a 'progressive.'

4. Voting for the idiot who said there was no difference between Bush and Gore...

5. Voting for a guy who worked his own employees to the bone (for substandard wages) and who busted unions among his employees, while claiming 'he really cares' about workers rights.

6. Supporting a guy who claims he cares about progressive issues when the same guy was slamming Wellstone, Feingold and Holt.

Not to mention this total joke;

http://www.therealdifference.com/issues.html

Anybody who believes this garbage outta stay home on election day.

Apparently if one Democrat supports an issue it's then lumped into the 'support' side of their handy little reference chart, cute.

Some 'progressive' Nader quotes below;

"After November we're going to go after the Congress in a very detailed way, district by district. We're going to beat them in every possible way. If Democrats are winning 51 to 49 percent, we're going to go in and beat them with Green votes. They've got to lose people, whether they are good or bad." -- October 30, 2000 In These Times magazine. The Article

"The Democrats are going to have to lose more elections. They didn't get the message last time." -- March 2000, Common Dreams The Article

Is this progressive, working together thing we're talking about? Yes, let's support Ralph Nader. :eyes:

Oh wait...more Nader insight below...

*Nader contended that Bush would not damage the Earth and generally remain popular, but he has pushed arctic drilling and other anti-environment policies. "If they continue to pursue a scorched-earth policy, they'll be defeated in the next election, and the environmental rules will come out stronger as a result. There's no way they're going to drill in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge (ANWR)."

Don't forget to vote Nader in 2004!!
