3. Ray Charles: made people feel good about America
with his classic arrangement of "America the Beautiful".

Reagan: made people feel good about America while singlehandedly destroying nearly everything that made it great in the first place.

More deserving: Ray Charles. Duh.

4. I voted for Ray.
I just found out a few minutes ago about his death, and I'd just quoted one of his songs on an earlier thread today.

His music was wonderful and will be a much more useful and joyful legacy than the one Reagan left.

13. What a bummer
Thanks to Ray, "Georgia on my Mind" became Georgia's state song (written by Hoagy Carmichael, of course). When the state legislature passed the bill designating it as the new song in 1979, Ray performed it in the capitol.

One of my favorite tunes of his is his version of "Oh, What a Beautiful Morning" from the musical Oklahoma. He did a fantastic performance of that when he was guest host on "Saturday Night Live" several years ago. It's also on his CD of standards (1998), which is Rhino #75210.

I suspect that people will still be listening to and getting pleasure from Rays music, long after the average man on the street has forgotten who the hell Ronald Reagan ever was.

7. Wow...
too much time in front of the TV has gotten some people a bit snappy. I come here to see a liberal view, not bizarro FReep...

Like him or not, any president deserves what Reagan should get - a dignified state funeral. Nothing more, nothing less. He's not getting it right now.

Maybe I should take a week off, go home and draw down the central air - I feel some flame coming my way.

9. Yeah, you should
Reagan should've died in jail. Even excepting that, a week of mourning is entirely unnecessary.

12. Ray Charles has given much more to this world than Ray-Gun ever had!
As a matter of fact, while Ray Charles was making beautiful music for the world, Reagan was trying to destroy that same world!

A week of mouring for Ray Charles is much more proper!

I`d rather honor a man who contributed to my enjoyment of the world through his artistry, than honor a shallow politician who contributed nothing except to his wealthy cronies.

10. I had to guess from the poll that
Ray Charles has died.

But, with all due respect, neither man deserves a full week of mourning, although Charles contributed far more good to the world than Reagan ever did.

20. Even in death Ray Charles gives to us fans...
he died for us, to spare us from a seemingly endless barrage of reagan sycophancy.

(and when kennedy, an assassinated president, gets 3 days of mourning and a moderate amount of coverage, and reagan gets 24/7 sycophancy upon 1/2 the channels going on its 6th day we know there's a problem. enough already. and 2:1 odds that this won't end on friday)

thank you ray charles, you were a good man in life and death and your art will stay with us in our hearts.
