To those of you who are upset that there is a REAGAN Airport...
Edited on Wed Jun-09-04 03:37 PM by Delano
I had to connect through Houston Intercontinental Airport this spring, and I was dismayed to find that it has been re-named "Bush Intercontinental Airport". Ecch.

And as if that wasn't bad enough, I passed THIS as I walked through the terminal...

It's the best photo I could find, but it's a huge statue of Poppy.

1. I've been there so many times. No one in Houston calls it Bush.
It's either "the airport that isn't Hobby" or "Intercontinental".

9. Or just "The Big Airport"
Hobby Airport is closer to the city & the Hobbys were a much more liberal family.

2. Is he wearing a cape?
I can't see the statue clearly, but it looks like he's wearing a cape.

"It's a bird, it's a plane..."

3. It's Poppy in his Navy Pilot days...
with a bomber jacket jauntily draped over his shoulder, waving in the wind. Very heroic...

7. this is going too far
it's time we start campaigns to rename airports and whatever else we can in favor of Jimmy Carter or Bill Clinton.

Ironic, considering they're from New England.

I don't get it  .

And what a nice choice of persons it is...

17. It rarely happens
It rearely happens here in the US.

I have always lived south of the mason-dixon line and the prevailing thought *EVERYWHERE* is that you don't name a building after a living person. I have asked and I have always gotten two answers.

1. You don't want the living person to do a bad thing and ruin the name.

2. It's unlucky and wishs death upon the person.

The only cases I have encountered where a building was named after a living person are for GHW Bush, Reagan (albeit he had alheimers), and Strom Thurmond (ditto?).

The thing is I really don't think that Reagan would want the airport or a federal building, or a mount rushmore like monument.

18. I saw it the last time I flew through there
My husband and I insta-puked. :puke: We just loved how he jauntily holds his jacket over his shoulder. :puke:

I refuse to call it "Bush" just like I refuse to call National Airport "Reagan". It will always be Intercontinental (or Intergallactic in jest) to me.

Not a very nice statue, IMO.

Well, I was in Phoenix a month ago, and there is a Barry Goldwater terminal at Phoenix Airport. But he meant a lot to the state of Arizona.

In Minnesota, they named a football stadium after Hubert Humphrey.
