Wow what a scam! Gas prices at lowest in 11 months!
Is this article a for real mistake or is it another desperate * attempt to be reSelected?

Gasoline prices hit their lowest levels since January this week, good news for the millions of Americans who will drive to visit friends and family during the holidays.

The average price for a gallon of regular gasoline was $1.465 Monday, down from $1.476 the prior week and the lowest price since Jan. 20, the Energy Department said. It was the third consecutive week of declines.

2. The story talks about holiday driving,
and implies January was 11 months ago -- I think this may be from Christmas. Surely not now, anyway.

I think something got screwed up in Yahoo's news server.

"The price fall was a bit puzzling given that oil prices, which account for nearly half of the cost of gasoline, have remained elevated throughout 2003."

that makes it sound like the article was from last year...it has to be

17. someone at Yahoo! screwed up
or is just not paying attention...I guess it could be both as they are sort of the same thing in this situation...but no, not a desperate attempt. I did get excited though at the thought of coming home to lower gas prices :)

USA today ran the story. Which also means it's likely that other Gannett owned newspapers picked it up. Or will do so in the next few days.

don't know what the update was, but it was clearly shown as POSTED in DEC2003 and updated today. Don't believe there is any 'scam' in process.

25. let's get ahead of this part of the story a bit
when bandar does flood the market and drives prices down for bush*'s benefit -- and if this brings bush*'s numbers up, I'd say that the public is being

band-oozled... (similar to bamboozled... does it work for you?)

They did this with Bush approval polls. They had an article that Bush's approval numbers had gone up. When I checked it, it was a 1 or 2 week old article.

16. This is HOGWASH .....
(Which is perhaps WHY it is in the news .. eh ?) ...

Still 1.82 in MO, where it hit a high of 1.92, and dropped slightly in the last two weeks ....

The Petroleum industry perfected the gaming of markets ... LONG before ENRON came to be ...

THEY are doing the same things ENRON did ..... and they smugly know: they will get away with it .... again ...

The price is as HIGH as the market will game .....

Competition is a lie ...

28. The article is from last year
>snip

The price fall was a bit puzzling given that oil prices, which account for nearly half of the cost of gasoline, have remained elevated throughout 2003. The decline was due to a variety of factors, including a seasonal reduction in gasoline use and a change to cheaper fuel formulations in the winter. Inventories are also at fairly healthy levels.
