American "News" Organizations feel no need to report news.
Since Reagan passed away, I have seen nothing on EITHER CNN, MSNBC, or FOXNEWS except coverage of Reagan's ended life. I have no damn idea what's going on in the world, no idea what Bush is up to, no idea what's happening in Iraq or anywhere else, because as of 1130 last night I'd seen nothing but people shoving their tongues up Reagan's ass. And the online sites I read, for the most part, have been too busy having article after article (yes, DU, I am looking in your direction; did you really need THREE articles on it?!) on Reagan, or people falling all over Reagan, to report on anything. The only source of mine that has been able to do ANYTHING since Saturday has been Atrios' Blog. That's pathetic. The man's dead. Mourn. Do whatever. Get over it. Move on! Can't we talk about that memo Bush's legal "experts" sent him telling him authority to set aside the laws is "inherent in the president."? Isn't that slightly more relevant?!

1. News Is Entertainment
At least that's the way the Corporations look at it after those massive media mergers.

I'll stick with my Shortwave Reciever and honest news from overseas.

3. exactly
that's what I'm concerned about!

Next president that dies, I'm expecting 63+ hours of continuous media coverage. Or else.

4. Figured that would happen
We have interrupted our news junkie habits and are getting our news from LBN this week. The interesting thing is that I've seen no sign in the outside world that people are hungry for this wall to wall coverage. In the course of going about my business Monday no one mentioned Reagan's passing at all, except for one or two who might or might not be affected by the federal holiday on Friday. There is speculation on that.

5. I've seen no sign that people in the US
are hungry for this wall to wall coverage. In fact, people are getting downright annoyed by it.

I think lots of folks dimly suspect that a lot of historical revisionism is going on, and that it's just more political propaganda for the GOP.

6. How many times can you tell the same story
in one week. That is why everyday more people are going to the Internet for information.

11. With all the focus on Reagan, that certainly lets W off the hook with most
of the news organizations and, as someone else has said, his spin machine is still up & running and playing sll of this to his advantage. It's also a week that the "liberal" press gets a free pass for not covering any events that could be potentially damaging to this administration. And those who speak the truth about the damage done by Reagan's policies are automatically villified.

Simply put, it's a win-win situation for the right wing and our corporate media, which BTW are often one in the same anyway.

I couldn't agree more! Unfortunately, a large majority of people get their news from these corporate machines. THAT'S why I'm bitching. The average joe isn't hearing even the whisper of real news you would normally hear on these channels. THAT'S bad news, so to speak. An uninformed, ignorant public benfits one person: George W. Bush.

13. there is no news on CABLE
however, network evening news DID cover real stories last night (after obligatory RR coverage, of course)

this will burn out. the cable ratings have got to be sinking fast. how long are people going to watch a live feed of a casket?

Cartoon Network and the Food Channel are probably BOOMING now!

14. This propaganda blitz...
... is yet another example of the Reich wing overplaying their hand. The percentage of Americans who actually revere Reagan is small. The rest of us are pretty annoyed, and the purpose of this focus on Reagan is identifiable as spin by even the thickest American.

They are going to play this because it is all they have. I think if Bush* gets any bounce in the polls at all, it will be exceedingly brief.

In other words, IMHO they are preaching to the choir only, nobodies opinion of Reagan is likely to change, and they have to be very circumspect in their comparisons of Bush* to Reagan. Reagan could actually speak, was actually engaging, and however misguided his policies were understood how they were supposed to work. Shrub ain't no Reagan, and that is for sure.

15. The seemingly total control of the media is why I so dislike the calls
for us to wait a week before we say anything negative about Reagan.
When the week is up, does anybody honestly think they'll let the Dems start badmouthing Reagan or his policies? The media will focus on some new diversion 24/7 so that the Dems are voiceless in mainstream media once again. Keeping silent is losing ground by simply handing it over to them. Decorum be damned.

16. Got "Orwell Rolls Over in his Grave" CD last night
documentary about the media that points out, clearly, what has happened with the 4th estate, and compares it with George Orwell's 1984 and Animal Farm. Very disturbing, says that the largest special interest... is the media!
