Were feeding tubes removed from Ronnie?
Oh boy, good thing they weren't living in Florida....I assume Jeb would be demanding that Ron's life be maintained at all costs.

2. I Am CERTAIN That They Were & Nancy Timed It For D-Day
Edited on Sun Jun-06-04 07:11 PM by cryingshame
she absolutely chose the time of his death. She is an avid astrology buff.

Further, the D-Day Memorial Celebration became interwoven with Reagan. They played his speech.

No doubt in my mind.

She called the family to be there and then alerted the newsrooms. Pulled out the plug. He died the next day.

Reagan's Alzeimer's was so advanced it seems pretty unlikely he was alive WITHOUT feeding tubes.

4. Major anachronistic overreach.
I don't believe Reagan played a major role in D-Day. Unless he volunteered his time to do military advertisements.

8. His D-Day Speech Was Played & The Far Right Myth Of Reagan
as an American Hero feed directly into the mindset behing the whole week long D-Day Memorial Celebration.

And on DU here I've read several times where people were surprised to find Reagan never served and just played a hero on tv.

Didn't Reagan himself once claim to have served?

It's all about Mythmaking and Manipulating Images. Nancy Reagan understood that intimately.

11. He was in the Army during WWII
He never went overseas or served in combat.

He made training films for the service.

I have read (do not know if it is true) that because of his terrible eyesight, he was rejected for more duty. If you ever saw pics of him wearing his glasses, they looked like coke bottles.

13. Hear that kids? Coke bottles
When they drag you in for your draft physical, just do like RR did and get ya a pair of Coke Bottle like glasses. When they test your eyesight, make sure you read everything wrong. You too can be like the 40th president and stay home from battle to make movies!

The life you save might be your own!

6. It's plausible...
The Air America news was reporting that Reagan's condition had been reported as "deteriorating" and that his death could occur in "weeks or months". I was surprised, then, to hear not an hour later that he had died.

But so what? I was no fan of Reagan's, but Alzheimer's is a terrible disease. If they pulled the plug, it was a kindness to him.

I say give the family and those who thought he was the second coming a week to grieve. THEN we can revisit the record if we want to. I would far prefer to put my energies into seeing the schmuck currently in the White House move out of it on Inauguration Day 2005.

14. You missed my point. If true, and I only heard this from my wife
who thought she heard it on the tube, then it is good thing Ron died in California, not Florida....otherwise, Jeb would be his legal guardian now. Of course, as a poster notes below, there could well have been a DNR order that he signed, prior to the advancement of his condition.

5. I thought that maybe they have been keeping him in the freezer for
awhile!! I'm sure she would do anything for money (just like her 2 minute appearance at W's convention when she refused to go until the day of his speech she 'gave' in)!! But this would be bad timing for George. In other words, first George would have done his D-Day; then his G-8 thing, etc. Ron would have been saved for things like when we handed over power to Iraq and all hell blew up, etc. to cover the on-going fuck up. Or, right before elections so W and Papa could cry and strut. If they froze of disconnected him, then they did it to screw Bush and not to help him.

9. Nancy hates Bush.
She always had. She would have disconnected feeding tubes because she wouldn't allow her"Ronnie "to benefit the Bushes. Ron Jr. called the Bushes the most corrupt ,evil people in the world.

Maybe Nancy did it three months early to fuck with Shrub.

12. More likely a decision was made not to put him on a ventilator....
Edited on Sun Jun-06-04 08:34 PM by hlthe2b
If he decompensated with pneumonia... Given that his son Michael was not there when he died, that tells me that the timetable was more Reagan's (i.e., natural course of events) than any conscious decision or act.

And, say what you will about Nancy-- she absolutely loved that guy... No way she would have allowed him to starve to death. That's just not even a remote possibility in my opinion.

However, I'd be willing to bet he signed a DNR (do not rescusitate order) prior to becoming totally dependent. That would have come into play with any decision to intubate or not... Having been put in a position myself to have to make that call for someone I loved (which is excruciating, even if you know it is the right decision), I can't imagine that Ronnie, knowing his time would come would NOT have signed the DNR.
