Question re the "slam dunk" remark
Why do we believe this? It goes against everything we know about Bush. The ONLY source we have that George Tenet said the case about WMD is George Bush himself.

Look, we know he's a congenital liar. This scene that he paints himself in (1) clears him of culpability for the weak evidence; (2) has him perceiving that the evidence is weak, questioning it, before being reassured TWICE that it's OK. Bush as perceptive? Bush as questioning? Puleeeeeezzze.

I don't believe this story. It struck me as weird when I first heard it, and the ONLY source is he who must not be contradicted.

Why do we believe this?

1. You are exactly right...

I think the Woodward book was the kick off of the "dump blame on Tenet" push...

2. well as Ray McGovern said this morning on Democracy Now ...
we know it's true because Condoleeze Rice confirmed that it happened.

I'm pretty sure he was being highly ironic.

There are reasons Woodward's book was on the Whitehouse's list of recommended reading. This is one of them.

3. I always thought the story was suspiciously overemphasized by Woodward.
Woodward ALWAYS twists stories to absolve Bush. He never sees anything wrong in anything the Bushes do - BCCI, IranContra - he couldn't find anything wrong.

Maybe cuz Deep Throat is Poppy?
