McCartney speaks out against war
What took you so long Paul?

Unfortunately, news has not gotten to him that Iraq had nothing to do with 9-11:

"Sir Paul said he understood the need to act after the terrorist attacks of 11 September 2001."

2. "Maybe it was wrong..." blablabla
He never has been very eloquent. I always found fascinating the contrast between the interviews he gave in the late 1960s, and the intellect he exhibited in his song-writing.

5. McCartney...
... is a nice guy but he's bland and has always been bland. The brains of that duo was killed in 1980.

7. Very true. John always put his money where his mouth was.
Even when it was to his detriment to do so.

13. Man, you got that!
"Imagine" versus "Silly Love Songs."

I rest my case. And I was mad for Paul during their heyday. It was only when I got past my early teens that I really began to appreciate John.

8. It wouldn't make any difference if Billy Graham spoke against it or....
George Bush Sr, or Al Gore, or Pat Robertson, or even if Ronald Reagan were to have a moment of clarity and come out against it, these people will have their war. Nothing will dissuade them except defeat. Even then, they will spit in the eye of their victors.

9. True. However...

...I personally need to be reminded, from time to time, that there are actually people in the world, that think war is wrong, and that this current quagmire, is indeed the act of a corrupt, and cowardly administration that thinks nothing of sending other peoples children far from home to die. I just need to know that that most people are not representative of what they constantly shove in our faces in the corporate owned media I guess.

It just makes me feel better. To all the DU'rs :toast: thanks for making me feel a little better today!

10. I like Paul.
Someone once said that without Lennon, Paul would have been about as insignificant as James Taylor. I agree in part that he would have been about as successful as JT, though I don't think that's the definition of insignificant. I'd bet that there are McCartney fans who will listen to his opinion, and even be influenced by it. So if anyone comes out against the war, even at this late hour, we can hope it influences others who have waited this long to see the war as wrong.

11. Oh I'm glad he did, too, as I am glad Howard Stearn also did...
...for those exact reasons. The only thing that bugs me about Paul, right now, however, is that he seemingly is unaware that Iraq had nothing to do with 9-11, or Al-Queda.

12. I agree.
Even in his prime, Paul did not seem to put as much effort into thinking as the other three Beatles. John and George consistently wrote lyrics with depth. Paul wrote silly love songs. Yet there were times when he showed an ability to really write great lyrics. It's a curious side to him, his seeming preference for that which is shallow yet popular..... I've heard his music compared to a hollow Easter candy, sweat, but not much to it .... so I'm not surprised that his understanding of Iraq is in the same vein.
