Bush campaign accents the negative
Scholars say volume of attacks is unprecedented

The tide is turning! Good article detailing the lies in the Bush ads.

1. Negativity as a first resort
Is the sign of an incumbent with no positive record of accomplishments on which to run.

4. I don't see this as a turning tide.
The article not only goes out of its way to disparage some of Kerry's campaigning, but also mitigates *'s lies by saying they "aren't so bad" and that he is only "responding to earlier attacks by the Democrats".

Any moderate reading this article could easily conclude that both sides are doing the same thing.

5. I thought the MSNBC article
was harder on Bush than Kerry. MSNBC also had an article about Kerry's plans for domestic security. Usually they just ignore the fact that Kerry exists.

6. This story is subtle, but huge.

I can't remember a time, in my own memory (and I've only been watching campaigns since 1984, and up-close-and-personal in 1988) where a major national newspaper has launched an editorial-esque attack on negative campaigning before the campaign has ended.

In my experience, the media likes to keep their mouths shut about the nasty goings-on, waiting until the results are in to wag their tongues about how horrible and ugly it was. This article, at the hand of Dana Milbank of the Washington Post, represents something larger than it appears at first glance. It's a huge break in the conventional wisdom of campaign reporting.

It's one of those little campaign earthquakes, in my eyes. It sends a message to the Bush Camp that not everyone has signed on to the upcoming ugliness. And I fear for the fall, because I actually believed the '88 Presidential Campaign was as negative as it could get, and the Bush Family didn't even start playing hard until after Labor Day.

It's Memorial Day, and the Bush Camp is in already in full negative campaign regalia. What's next?? How much possibly worse could their campaign get? How low will they go? THAT is the burning question.

7. Well, some of us have a suspicion how low they COULD go
:scared:

Actually I'm not frightened so much as discusted. Gore is right. The people occupying the White House are a threat to our National Security.

10. I pretty much
seen this coming...they have nothing to run on so they are going after Kerry to try and make him look bad and take the pressure off themselves...

What get's me is that through all the bullshit that the BushCo admin has put this country through...people still follow along like nothings wrong...it's pathetic...

11. Good post shraby !
I think Kerry's next ad perhaps should address this "negativity" of the Bush/Rove campaign. Bring it to the people's attention. Don't assume they already notice. Bring it to their conscious level. If it is effective, it may put the Bush regime on the defensive if they think they are going to be called on their negative ads?? Just a thought.
