THE PROBLEM

This is not the way it was supposed to be, not by a long shot. By now, George W. Bush was supposed to be a shoo-in for a second term in the White House. It really looked as if they had it all: Karl Rove was the master political strategist, the Neocons were the master war planners, and Dick Cheney was the master puppeteer of all time. Together, they would clear a path to victory for George Bush, the strong war candidate, for George Bush the highly popular candidate, and for George Bush, the absolutely unbeatable candidate. Theirs were the best laid plans, for sure. But they went badly astray....

THE SCAM

What to do? What to do? You know that these people will not go quietly into the night. You know they will come up with a strategy to counter their failures. You just know it. And they did.

The plan is simple and clever, and was inspired by the tragic train bombings in Madrid that brought down a pro war government. It relies heavily on the fear factor that has been the calling card of this administration for three years. It also relies solidly on another given: the cooperation and complicity of the corporate media.

1. This is such Crap!

If Osama bin Laden wants anyone to win, thinking people would realize that he'd vote for Bush! Bush has helped him recruit beyond his wildest dreams! Bush has reinforced Osama's assertion that the US is evil and wants to wipe out all of Islam thus making it possible to recruit from the huge pool of (formerly) moderate Muslims!

John Kerry will put an honorable end to this misadventure in Iraq and concentrate on actually going after the terrorists! (Imagine that!) John Kerry will almost certainly have more worldwide support in these efforts making it harder for terrorists to achieve their goals.

He's a genuine neocon, not one of the duped masses. Like he reads Commentary and knows about AEI and PNAC and Leo Strauss and all that. Plus he's rich.

He basically told me like a week ago, in defense of the war, that it satisfied two of Osama bin Laden's demands - end the sanctions on Iraq, and get the troops out of Saudi Arabia. I asked him, isn't that appeasement? He said no, but I don't know if I got his fine distinction.

Anyways, as long as they're on the topic of confusing people about all this stuff, let's throw this point in - George W. Bush satisfied two of Osama's demands.

Just send them the post... and tell them it won't work. I wrote to CNN, after counting SEVEN repetitions in two days of the statement about 'speculations' about Al Qaeda and Kerry. Of course, the speculator is Karl Rove. What people don't understand is that Kerry's approach - to stop the entire Moslem world from hating us, - is a first step. Getting 'tougher' means nothing. He said clearly that he would go after the Cells....that's the way to go. Invading nations with no Al Qaeda ties and killing thousands of people and our own kids was the Bush way. Of course Al Qaeda hates Bush. I do. Why shouldn't they?
