RW Radio Stepping Up Comparing Iraq To WWII
Its disgusting. Their point is basically that we should idolize the president and the troops as was, by their accounts, done throughout WWII.

Examples:

1. Limbaugh asked today what people would have thought if a former vice-president made a speech about FDR and his cabinet, similar to Vice President Gore's latest speech about the Bush administration, during WWII. Then, Limbaugh made the point that no one would have dared make such a speech, and insinuated that Gore is scum of the Earth for making his speech.

2. Weiner (Michael Savage) played patriotic speeches and slammed the Democrats for not making those kind of speeches, and pointed out that the Germans bombed St. Paul's cathedral, insinuating that we, now, in Iraq, should not hesitate to bomb "holy places."

But, there is no comparison between WWII and the invasion, overthrow, and imperialistic occupation and nation building in Iraq. I am very interested in getting your input as to how Operation Iraqi Freedom differs from WWII, because I am sure I am not thinking of everything.

Finally, I guess my point is that these RW radio hosts are a scourge on our democratic republic.

But you already knew that, and I am proud to be in your cyber-company.

1. Well, such comparisons will surely piss off the "greatest generation...."
and though they are rapidly dwindling, they absolutely DO vote. So, go on idiots. Run your mouth off!

18. Seniors have been polling pretty consistently
against the Chimp. These are their kids and grandkids fighting over there for a lie that is unworthy of the uniform those kids put on.

3. [freeper mode] In 1983...
If freedom-hating appeasement liberals had been criticizing Reagan during the invasion of Grenada, we might have lost, as it would have disheartened our troops. We would all be speaking Grenadian now and have all our freedoms taken away, as commie Grenada will have taken over the whole world.

4. Germany & the Axis were major world powers in WWII
Iraq was a defeated and weak state with no intention to attack anyone. Comparisons to WWII are an insult to the vets who served for years on end in that do-or-die war.

5. Oh, I think there's a comparison to WWII to be had in there somewhere...
...but it might not be the one our rightwing compatriots would like to see.

21. Are you comparing the U.S. to Nazi Germany?
Are you saying that the U.S. invading Iraq is comparable to Germany invading Poland? That's not the subject matter or point of my post about RW radio, but you have an argument.

22. It's not a pleasant comparison, but unfortunately it has merit

While we're at it, we may as well compare the attack on the World Trade Center to the burning of the Reichstag.

There are important differences, as well. We shouldn't overlook them when making these comparisons, but the similarities are truly chilling.

You might be interested in Thom Hartman's essay, When Democracy Failed, if you haven't read it yet.

6. I'm not too surprised.
I'll be surprised when they compare it to the American Revolution. They're really wrapping the flag around themselves extra tight. Wave that flag a little faster, might start to fly.

I didn't catch the Weiner Nation, is he implying the US is like the Nazis in WWII bombing holy places?

I'm thinking that every complaint to these guys and the radio stations that run them should be CC'd to their all of their sponsors. These guys keep spouting off their garbage because they paid to do it.

My $0.02.

7. Germany occupied how many countries?
10 or so in Europe, how many elsewhere? They attacked Russia. They had a pact with Italy & Japan who were attacking and occupying other countries. Not even remotely the same thing. If Iraq had actually taken over the entire ME, Iran was attacking China and N Korea was occupying S Korea, other countries and attacking Japan; and they TRULY had a pact that they were working together; then you'd have a comparison.

There is absolutely no comparison and these idiots ought to be ashamed of themselves for trying to make it. Every one of my WWII uncles are absolutely appalled, I would guess there's alot more like them.

2 Nazi Germany, he might have a point. Germany imvaded smaller, weaker countries w/ weak or non-existant reasons. They destroyed villages when local resistance was discovered. POWs were tortured and murdered.

15. I tend to think that America entering WWII was necessary
America attacking Iraq, overthrowing, occupying and attempting to install a new government is, shall we say . . . I don't think there is a word in the English language to describe such an action.

19. They want it to be like World War II? OK, let's give it to them.
If they want to recreate the American universe of 1944 that means:

Much higher taxes, especially for the wealthy.

Rationing of food, gasoline, rubber, aluminum and copper.

Young children collecting alumminum cans and rubber products for the war effort--no sitting at home in the basement with the Play Station.

Conversion of all domestic manufacturing industries into wartime industries.

Strict government supervision of all defense contracts.

The draft, and no bullshit excuses.
