Understand that they are attacking Dean because he intends to take back the party from the corporate influence that the DLC money grubbers Al From and Skippy his sidekick so treasure.
The DLC may have served a purpose in the past. But they are obsolete now and are ruining the party IMO.

Please do not respond by telling me who is DLC or who used to be...that was then and this is now.

They have too much influence, they are wrong and they would rather bush win than a populist or liberal democrat. I personally think they are republican operatives.

Join DFA (democracy for america) and support their DLC free grassroots candidates. It's not disloyal to Kerry. You won't be voting for Dean for President if you do so. But you will join an organization that wants to give you a bigger voice in your government and in your party.

1. Long-term strategizing and organizing? You can't do that!
You're only supposed to focus on this one election and fantasize about how great things will be if Kerry is elected.

SARCASM DISCLAIMER

3. yup...but it is time for us to get organized or we will never progress
So even though I am supposed to fantacize about how great things will be, I don't. I don't think much will change until we have true populists in office. We are drowning in people who thinks constituents are just people to be exploited for votes and ignored later.

2. I agree Cheswick
the DLC is pure poison. The poison corrodes our identity as a party, rendering us a mish-mash of people who don't like Bush, but have no direction otherwise. The Democrats will not be a majority party until the DLC is gone from the leadership.

They hated Dean for exactly the reason you said, he was a threat to their power, and their idea that standing up for principles, for what is morally right, is electorally unsound. Never mind that the Republicans took power in 1994 on the back of the "Contract with America," a set of clear policy positions and principles. The fact we can't learn from 1994 is sad.

4. Yep. Contract with America was pure genius-- evil genius, but
it really is sad there are so many boneheads out there that can't learn. They think building power is all about finding the most electable candidate. No strategizing, no organizing, no risk-taking, no ideological principles-- and then they wonder why the Republicans are dominant.

They ignore the BBV issue. Is it a wonder why people think they are working for the republicans?

5. The nutcase right wing says the same thing about unions...
"The DLC may have served a purpose in the past. But they are obsolete now..."

That's a classic line but means nothing if you realize the line's used in propaganda to attack.

Ho, hum... blah, blah, blah.

7. So what?
Let him propagandize. The DLC's been doing it for years. Progressive and working-class Democrats need to take down the DLC and their corporate stranglehold over the electoral left by any means necessary.

15. Calling it a 'pity party' shows the arrogance of the DLC...
...and yet one more reason to get rid of them. This is the type of 'my way or the highway' thinking one has come to expect from the Bushie Republicans.

- Democrats would like to know why a 'faction' of the party call themselves 'new' Democrats instead of plain old Democrats? Is this a signal to the corporate world that they're rejecting the new deal and great society of the party of the people and stand ready to jump on the corporate bandwagon?

- There's nothing worse than a sellout. Especially when they sell out millions of citizens depending on them to represent THEIR interests instead of the ruling class. Kerry intimated this thinking when he said "I refuse to lead a party that loves jobs but hates the people that create them." What kind of BS is this? Democrats don't hate people who create jobs. They hate people who cheat workers out of a living wage, safe working conditions and benefits.

- Al From: In that vein, Mr. Kerry has been calling himself an "entrepreneurial Democrat" and notably assured an audience of donors three weeks ago that he did not want to soak the rich: "I am not a redistributionist Democrat," he said. "Fear not." --- More class warfare and fearmongering from the DLC.

Sad part is that Kerry is only speaking this way to collect corporate money.

11. Does that mean that if you say
Edited on Fri May-28-04 01:06 PM by 56kid
a voting age of 21 may have served a purpose in the past but it is obsolete now
or
not giving women the right to vote may have served a purpose in the past but it is obsolete now
or
selection of U.S. senators by the House of Representatives may have served a purpose in the past but it is obsolete now

that such statements are invalid and that they are a line used in propaganda to attack?

& even if they are "propaganda" so what???

geez, I don't know why I'm even bothering dignifying your point with a response.

13. tragically some people can only think in terms of right and left
right and wrong, good and bad, principal and no principal...those ideas are beyond them. To them money is everything.

19. We gotta make up our minds.
Do we want a true progressive overhaul of government, or are we gonna wimp out with the same centrist stuff, that just don't work.

There needs to be a defining vision that is miles away from Bush, or we just will not win.

22. I am not sure it has to do with being centrist or left or even right
It is more about letting the people have more power than the corporations. It is about letting people have a voice in the government even if they can't give thousands of dollars to buy that influence.
From and company make their living selling political influence.
