Why isn't The Big Dog more involved with Moveon.org?
Edited on Thu May-27-04 03:02 PM by immune2irony
Can someone explain this? Gore's out there, working with Moveon.org, getting the word out about Bush, and being uncharacteristically feisty.

Meanwhile, where's Clinton? Why hasn't he done much in the battle to remove Bush? Why hasn't he joined forces with MoveOn.org, which was founded to assist Clinton in his hour of need. Now when MoveOn.org could use some help from the greatest president in American history, he's nowhere to be found. What gives?

And please, no comments like "The Clintons want Bush to win so Hillary has a shot in 2008." I think Clinton puts the fate of our nation ahead of his wife's political career.

1. It might be because of Monicagate. There are still many
would be Democratic voters out there who totally disapproved of Clinton's moral lapse and voted for Bush for that reason. Now they regret it but maybe he's keeping a low profile so as not to rock the boat with this part of the electorate. IMO

2. Maybe at this point he might feel that he may not help Kerry, considering
how there is so much hatred against the Clinton family... or maybe he is busy getting his book promoted. He will be going all over the world promoting his book. I am sure there is a good reason we know he is no dummy.

3. A former president has to be careful when criticizing the present
occupant of the WH, even if he did steal it.

5. Because MoveOn.org is a progressive organization...
... and Clinton is NOT a progressive in any way, shape or form.

6. Yeah. That must be it.

The fact is that MoveOn was founded explicitly as a *moderate* and *pro-Clinton* organization. Remember its original purpose? The founders actually said they were Clinton Democrats. Thank God it's not "progressive." A "progressive" is a liberal who's too virtuous for mere politics. Liberals win elections. Progressives bitch and moan, and are very happy that way.

Gore, for that matter, spent his career very much in the same political camp as Clinton, if not to his right.

catgirl has the answer up above -- Gore and Clinton are in very different positions right now. Not only is Gore not an ex-pres, he's the "president in exile" to many, the individual embodiment of an injustice done to the nation, and this gives him a special platform.
