New National Pastime-Bush Bashing
Edited on Thu May-27-04 09:12 AM by bryant69
This is an abbreviated title of Larry Elder's latest article --> http://www.townhall.com/columnists/larryelder/le20040527.shtml

In it he takes liberals to task for our anti-Bush rhetoric in public conversations, and for some pretty rude actions that apparently two liberals took. He ends his bit with this little tidbit.

"What about you? Have you bitten your tongue while somebody you just met demeans the president by calling him a moron, evil or reminiscent of Hitler? How many times have you fought back the urge to defend the president against unfair, hysterical, emotional, nonsensical and childish "Bush-makes-me-feel-ashamed-to-be-an-American" type remarks?"

My response is that conservatives are just as mean as liberals and probably more so. For one thing, to a much greater extent they have an intellectual framework that encouraged hatred and even violence against liberals (created by Ann Coulter, Michael Savage, and others).

But my personal experience in this regard isn't all that great. I have a friend I don't talk to anymore--but that's about it. But I thought perhaps you'd like to forward your experiences to mr. Elder --> you can use this website here. http://cf.townhall.com/contact/columnists.cfm?ID=19&Post=12489

Also, I'd like to collect a few examples of conservatives pounding on ilberals for my website--any examples you can provide (so long as you don't mind me publishing them) would be appreciated.

Bryant

2. Hmm... lemme see here...
"What about you? Have you bitten your tongue while somebody you just met demeans the president by calling him a moron, evil or reminiscent of Hitler? I think I can answer...

Number of tongue bitings... um... none.

Number of times I've fought back the urge... eh... geez, that's another big goose egg.

In my own defense, however, I've never fought back the said urge because I honestly have never felt it. So I guess there's still hope for me, after all.

Oh--Mr. Elder? One other thing...

27. Good one.
I was thinking the same thing when I read your post. Wanna bet this guy was a leading RW cheerleader during the Clinton Inquisition? It must be shocking to him that liberals, who held their tongues too much in the 90s, are finally saying we've had enough of this unelected, incompetent fraud-king.

His hero bush belongs in jail. He should be happy that after lying us into an immoral war, he is still allowed to roam free and even run for election.

6. Ya know what gets me about this?
And about people like the editor that called for more pro-Bush letters? Do they NEVER stop to consider that perhaps the letters they are getting, the 'new national pastime', etc., are really representative of how the majority of people are feeling? Is that idea so absurd to them that people might be displeased with Bush&Co as to be critical of them?

9. OK Mr. Elder

How often did YOU make the same remarks against Clinton? But that's OK, isn't it, because of course, Clinton was ALL BAD and Bush is ALL GOOD. Period. Turnabout is fair play, and paybacks are a bitch, and if you aren't mature enough to know those rules you still don't get to have them not apply to you. Deal with it. We had to deal with far more ridiculous complaints for 8 years than that the president started an illegal war and is violating Geneva Convention rulings.

14. They want Dems to go back to pre-Howard Dean days
when the Dems were oh so nice and modest and tempered and apologetic for even disagreeing just a little tiny teeny bit with a few of their points. They want us to be like Lieberman and the Dems on Fox. Well, first, that didn't word. And second, he is a stupid evil Hitler-esque moron. And third, how dare they after what they did to Clinton and Gore and everybody else that stood in their way.

Mostly, though--it didn't work. Been there; done that. If they think nicey-nicey is better, well then let them lead the way. If their nice candidate starts winning against our outraged-at-their-stupidity candidate, THEN . . . maybe we'll re-evaluate.

Bill Clinton Knows Evil
By Larry Elder
FrontPageMagazine.com | December 31, 1998

So in the ever-intriguing mind of the emotional, liberal Democrat, impeachment turns not on the facts, the law, or the Constitution. No, this is, as Clinton attack dog James Carville put it, "war." This is Us vs. Them, Rightness vs. Meanness, Good vs. Evil. Fortunately, in this fight, we do have a referee. It's called the Constitution. And the founders established a procedure for impeachment and trial in the Senate for a president who becomes "odious," "contemptible," "shameful," "reckless," "indefensible," "despicable," "dishonest," "stupid."

Some quote the founders of the Constitution, others quote the founder of Hustler.

Where were Bush's critics during Kosovo?
Larry Elder
March 6, 2003

Not that his supporters care, but Clinton apparently exaggerated the suffering in Kosovo. In November 1999, the Christian Science Monitor wrote, "U.S. and NATO officials at times implied that as many as 100,000 ethnic Albanians may have been killed, and they used words like 'genocide' to describe the Serbian policy. They later lowered the estimate to 10,000. But preliminary findings from war-crimes investigators indicate that the number of ethnic Albanians killed by Serbian forces during the air strikes was probably closer to 5,000."

But when and if forces enter Iraq, expect the humanitarian charges lodged against Saddam Hussein to prove not only accurate, but understated.

What a difference an administration makes.

17. Attacks by Repukes
Every week four of us protest the war. Twice one of us has been physically attacked, knocked down, punched and kicked repeatedly in the head. When he was attacked he did not fight back and he is one big guy who could have leveled his attackers. Here are some of the comments yelled at us by passing motorists: "I'm going to kick your ass and burn your house down," (this to my 66 year old mother by a young man), "Get a f***king job", "Communists", and the like. At another protest the war mongers would stand so their flags would hit us in the face. They also pushed us.
As a contrast to this behavior we had a gathering for Russ Feingold. Several anti-Feingold protesters came with signs. They were treated with respect by the rest of us. When people stop at our weekly protests we talk to them but never use any foul language or physical threats.

18. Nah, Larry.
But in my own defense, I was already calling the Dim Son evil and frightening and a moron long before the SCOTUS installed him in the White House like an ugly black velvet painting of a cymbal-playing monkey. I pride myself on my consistency -- I have consistently slagged the bastard since long before the election, and I certainly wasn't going to stop when he failed to win the election fair and square and wound up in the Oval Office anyhow.

Why should I?

It's like I tell anybody who's proud to be a Republican and yet bitches about the state the country is in -- "your boys are running everything. They're in charge of all three branches of government, and for the most part they run the state we live in (Ohio). If you have a problem with they way they're running it all, it's your own damned fault for voting for them. Don't cry to me about it -- I didn't vote for any of them."

19. Didn't Newt Gingrich send out a memo years ago stating that when
republicans talk about democrats they should refer to them as "crooks", "weirdos", etc?

Elder should study up on history and he will learn that republicans mastered this art of "bashing" under their own Newt.

20. Oh, puh-leeze!
I wish I had a nickel for every time someone I barely knew launched into a Clinton/Gore/evil librul bashfest!

Once I was at a lunch with a saleswoman who was trying to get a very lucrative contract with us, and she started crapping on Gore. This was shortly after the selection, and I was NOT in the mood. I just smiled sweetly and thought what an idiot she was, and that she'd get my business when hell froze over!

22. Isn't this a paraphrase of Harry Truman: "When my opponents say I'm giving
'em hell, I'm just telling the truth and they think it's hell."

I wonder how much a percentage of what hear as "bashing" is really fact, and how much is opinion. And we could compare that with how much of their invective against Clinton was fact vs. opinion.

Personally, I'm tired of:

political centrist bashing
liberal bashing
left-of-center bashing
public school bashing
reasonable taxation bashing
anti-war protester bashing
intellectual bashing
democrat bashing
common sense bashing
independent thought bashing
medicare (the original) bashing
social security bashing
deficit-reduction bashing
social uplift program bashing
"do-gooder" bashing
