RNC Communications Director Statement on Al Gore's Comments Today at MoveOn.org Rally

To: National Desk, Political Reporter

Contact: Christine Iverson of the Republican National Committee, 202-863-8614

WASHINGTON, May 26 /U.S. Newswire/ -- Republican National Committee (RNC) Communications Director Jim Dyke issued the following statement today in response to a speech by former Vice President Al Gore attacking President Bush:

"Al Gore served as Vice President of this country for eight years. During that time, Osama Bin Laden declared war on the United States five times and terrorists killed US citizens on at least four different occasions including the first bombing of the World Trade Center, the attacks on Khobar Towers, our embassies in East Africa, and the USS Cole."

"Al Gore's attacks on the President today demonstrate that he either does not understand the threat of global terror, or he has amnesia."

2. Unbelievable!!
During those eight years, the GOP declared war on President Clinton and accused him of "wagging the dog" when he tried to go after bin Laden. And, they laughed off the 1996 Gore Commission's airline security recommendations. Talk about amnesia!!

4. Oh my, let's not start the body count game
I can't believe he would even go there.

He does not understand the threat or global terror? No, he does not understand why BushCo wants to create more, if that's what you mean.

Could they be any stupider? Gore's speech was amazing and devastating. They're probably wetting their pants.

6. Oh, please. I'm no staunch supporter of Gore,
but no way do I believe any of this "they had him and let him go" crap when it comes to the Clinton years.

$hrub, on the other hand... I certainly can believe that he passed up on opportunities to nail OBL.

7. Just got this in my inbox
The following excerpts from Gore's speech make America sound like a moral nation:
How dare the incompetent and willful members of this Bush/Cheney Administration humiliate our nation and our people in the eyes of the world and in the conscience of our own people. How dare they subject us to such dishonor and disgrace. How dare they drag the good name of the United States of America through the mud of Saddam Hussein's torture prison. In my religious tradition, I have been taught that "ye shall know them by their fruits. Do men gather grapes of thorns, or figs of thistles? Even so, every good tree bringeth forth good fruit; but a corrupt tree bringeth forth evil fruit... Wherefore by their fruits ye shall know them."
A nation that kills its unborn babies by the hundreds of thousands, promotes homosexual legitimacy, is raising a generation of cheaters (I know, I work in a high school)and has made pornography one of its most lucrative industries, is NOT a moral nation!  Gore continues:
Our moral authority in the world derived from the hope anchored in the rule of law. With this blatant failure of the rule of law from the very agents of our government, we face a great challenge in restoring our moral authority in the world and demonstrating our commitment to bringing a better life to our global neighbors...  Someone needs to inform Mr. Gore that the Geneva Convention does not apply to terrorists.  My son is fighting in Iraq, and I feel betrayed by Gore, not Bush, for his treason-like speech that will embolden the enemy to recruit more American-killing followers, thus putting my son in more danger.  This speech is proof that Al Gore is not a man of integrity  and it also proves he plans to be the vice presidential candidate under Kerry.  I am physically sick to my stomach with anger and indignation at his gall.

9. Gag me
"Geneva Convention does not apply to terrorists." How can anybody BE this stupid? That person thinks the hundreds of people we *released* from Abu Ghraib were all "terrorists," anyway? What if somebody decides her son is a "terrorist?" And this whole notion that speaking out against Chimp "emboldens the enemy" -- like killing and torturing them and their family doesn't "embolden" them, but Gore's speech does.

The problem with these types is they're so misguided, it's hard to know where to start. And sometimes I think it's best not to bother.

8. WahWah.... I thought BushCo didn't like looking to the past and pointing
fingers? Oh wait, all the relevant news of the last month or year might actually be more important. What's happening now? Oh and guess what?

Gore isn't running, your asshole is.

Paid for by one pissed off Portlander.

10. They LOVE to count--sheesh....
Anybody with a smidgeon of intelligence should be able to see through this carp. The issue is not "16 words", "5 times", "4 occasions"...:eyes: The issue is what's been the total costs based on the approach by Clinton/Gore vs. the costs using Bush's approach. Now if they want to compare the total results, THEN we'd see some numbers...10,000 lives, $200 billion dollars, trillion dollar deficit...
