TERROR! | there WON'T be an attack, but it is a SET-UP
Edited on Wed May-26-04 08:08 AM by nostamj
well, there won't be an attack that is orchestrated or LIHOP'd by the bushies which so many seem to believe. (a 'genuine' attack is always possible... but, like with 9/11, we'll only know about it when it happens)

think about it. the 'war on terra' prez allowing another attack on the homeland? in the current political environment?

it would be the absolute end of him. MISERABLE FAILURE anyone?

no.

when asked to speculate on an "October Surprise" I've always proposed that it would not be a new attack or the public display of OBL.

if * is going to polish his tarnished warrior credentials, he's got to do something RIGHT in his mythical 'war on terra' and standing in another field of carnage and destruction is NOT going to do that.

so, he's ratcheting up the TERROR again. why?

because he's going to THWART an attack.

watch for brave commander bunnypants to appear (probably in a chem suit) showing off a massive cache of anthrax (baking soda) and hauling off a cell of brown-skinned terrorist-activity-related-programmers (on loan from Gitmo).

I can't think of anything else that might save his image now.

on edit: stupid, not-enough-coffee-related-typo-activity

or, would a military coup to remove the bushies and allow elections to go forward be more likely if they attempted that scenerio?

6. was just thinking the same thing...
this will be done in stages and the timeframe and steps will be unfolded according to polling and public opinion.

-step 1: yesterday's announcement
-step 2: move to orange alert
-step 3: increase in "credible" info and it gets more specific
-step 4: a few scattered attacks or thwarted attacks in other countries, perhaps arrests in the US
-step 5: the big "stop" on American soil. the timing of this will likely be October but again will depend upon external events and polling

it's also possible that the UBL card would be played in this scenario. By itself, capturing Usama is not enough to save *. But combined with a heroic "save" it would be more powerful.

23. "what should we do to preempt it?"

well, we need to put out the idea that once again we are being 'set-up' and lied to by bushco.

calls to radio/TV to discuss the new TERROR THREAT but suggesting our concerns that in reality a 'heroic' THWART scenerio is coming to benefit the bushies

letters to the editor

with the current level of 'trust' this administration has, it wouldn't be too hard to plant the idea...

Can't you see Commander Bunnypants with socks in his jock leading brown people (borrowed from Gitmo, as you said) away from the convention hall in Boston? That is not a huge gathering of Americans...People are spread out in small numbers at different times of the day in thousands of random polling areas. Not a target.

I still think the real terrorists will go for a nuclear plant or chemical plant that could kill a huge number of people with a toxic cloud. Why bother with the Conventions or other high-profile events...the security will be overwhelming. Yet the nuke plants are not safely guarded I hear.

The primary argument being that Bush wasted billions in Iraq while giving domestic security short shrift, leaving us defenseless. And there are specific examples of HOW he failed domestically, such as the recent story about cutting the number of FBI agents assigned to track down terrorist financial resources.

Another attack would make manifest the impotence of this administration to actually protect the people, which is the only thing they have. (I can't believe the number of times i've heard callers say that protecting the citizenry is the government's number one job. Wrong, but commonly said.)

I don't see it happening, unless they are SO incompetent that they really didn't see it coming.

50. I'm with you...
...I firmly believe (as recent history has shown) the American public would react to such by flexing their nationalism.

If you look at a graph of this President's popularity ratings, though on a general decline, they have always taken a surge after events of this nature. 9/11, the beginning of the war, and the capture of Saddam Hussein were all big paydays for the Bush polls.

An actual Al-Qaeda attack at this point would prove one of three things. Either, a) they don't understand the American psyche enough to realize the American penchant for jingoism, and such a vast misunderstanding of their foe doesn't bode well for their long-term success, or b) they actually want Bush back in office because they feel it helps their cause in some way, possibly by gaining them more sympathy and soldiers, or c) opportunity overrides all and they have to strike while the iron is hot.

Of course, the info given out by the feds in the last few days sounds like a whole lot of nothing. "An increase in chatter"? That's it? That could be the result of a LOT of things.

Sounds like the feds took something that sounded merely "curious" and upped the alarm notch on it a bit. They tweaked it a little to suit them.

Not to mention, haven't they been giving these freakin' things right before every holiday anyway?

But, you know, it got everyone's minds off the credibility shot we've taken in the last few months, right?

but it would let the Republican's practice and see what the American public's reaction would be - then proceed from there. If reaction is "good" meaning people flock back to Bush - then more harmless "terror". If reaction is bad - then no more terror and either way the Republicans win.

22. NPR this morning
had a report about the *warning* that's coming out later today...let me explain.

See, it's all Spain's fault.

When they *caved into pressure from Al-Qaeda*, they taught them that by bombing, they can force the hand of the people to remove pesky leaders. The *resistance* and *overthrow of the Spanish gov't* (excuse me, didn't they have...uhhh...an ELECTION?!:grr:)by the SOCIALISTS (DEAR GOD, HIDE THE CHILDREN!! THE SOCIALISTS ARE COMING!!) who immediately began steps to remove all Spanish troops from Iraq just gave the terra-ists more ammo. See, THAT's why they're coming to get us...

I'm sorry, but...AS. F*CKING. IF Americans would get off their dead, television-induced-stupor asses and overthrow ANYTHING. They'd let a freakin' Tic Tac run this country as long as gas was cheap and American Idol didn't get cancelled (now THAT'S when they'll take to the streets, folks...) If this is Al-Qaeda's plan, they CLEARLY have us confused with a country who gives a damn.

So now, pResident Asshat and Co. can not only *save* us from this impending doom, but they can also give Spain the nice public flogging they've earned by standing up for what's right...Damn you, Spain...damn you to HADES! :eyes:

This whole thing stinks like the very crack of Satan's ass. And just for the record, we should stop predicting the next idiotic ploy this mob is planning; I think they must be reading us given the accuracy of said predictions. :eyes:

Either they are going to thwart an attack and make * look like a hero that will "keep us safe", or they will let an attack happen, which will also bolster *'s numbers because people view him as "stronger on terrorism". As long as we get to fight a war after an attack (ie get revenge), Americans feel like we are doing something, even if in fact it serves only to recruit more terrorists.

I made the Right Wing News site back in January with this posting:

Hell Hath No Fury (1000+ posts): "They've been waiting for this opportunity since...the late 80s and are in the first stages of their Pax Americana.

They are NOT going to let this go without a fight -- and a dirty one at that.

How far are they willing to go?

I have come to the conclusion after three years that they may go to lengths that will blow our collective minds.

Personally, I am thinking some sort of massive attack that is "foiled" by Bush et al right before election time, or a national emergency that pulls the country together or delays elections."

I still feel the same way -- they will not let this go without a fight. And the more Bush's poll and reelection numbers drop, the more desperate they may become.

And that is a scary thought.

BUT, we will be having raids, successful manhunts, excellent CIA/FBI and Georgie our leader stopping planned attack after planned attack. I'll be a whole shit pile of dudes are already in "makeup" getting fit for their wardrobes, weaponry, etc. In fact it's so predictable - remember, the only one thing he still shines at in polls is "defending us from terror". 47. We are being set-up for whatever keeps the PNAC in power.
Bush's numbers will continue to go down through the summer as gas prices go through the roof while troops continue to die for Halliburton. The Democratic Convention should give Kerry a commanding lead, then the Republican Convention will narrow the gap. Nothing unusual so far.

But October will be no Surprise for anyone paying attention. The whole month should be one big Orange Alert, occasionally slipping into Red when Bush feels public support waning. Rove will have his eyes and ears all over the polls. If Bush gains a significant lead, then there will be no attack and Bush will be portrayed in the corporate media as having vanquished the threat. If the race is too close to call, they may order an attack to stop the election, or they may just let Diebold install the Thief. If, like Spain, the public reacts adversely and swings in a large majority over to Kerry, then there will be an attack to shut down the election and perpetuate martial law. Say all you want about both candidates being Skull and Bones, Kerry has no ties to the PNAC and THEY cannot allow Kerry to take their base of power away.

When I try to imagine the miracle, that somehow Kerry can overcome the Diebold/BFEE conspiracy and take the election, the only reason I could see that happening is if Bush fucks things up so bad in the Middle East that they want the situation given to Kerry so that his hands are tied. If Iraq is so chaotic that, despite Kerry's begging, the U.N. refuses to send troops, Kerry may end up playing Nixon to Bush's LBJ, using the Vietnam analogy. Perhaps the BFEE is hoping that Kerry will not create his 10 million jobs and that they can paint his foreign policy as ineffectual, like Carter, and put Jeb Bush in position to take back the White House in 2008. I like to hope that a Kerry Administration would be like Clinton's Administration and create hope and prosperity for America.

But maybe that's just wishful thinking.

49. I agree 95%, here's my thoughts
Who would help Bush do this? CIA -- not likely, the staffers are probably the ones leaking the abuse photos.
FBI? Not with the reaming they're taking.

Who could do this and not get caught by the CIA or FBI? I don't know but it sounds pretty risky.

--

Why I think Bush will lose:

The people who run this country are the media conglomerates.

The economy is in the tank. People make choices where to spend diminishing income, if it comes between a loaf of bread and cable TV, the loaf of bread wins. I think the media giants are seeing the front end of this effect, and want Bush out.

But they do want it to be a very controversial departure -- that will sell more media.

This is no excuse to sit on our hands, we have to get the vote out, and re-double our efforts.

51. if bush & co. try to prevent election ...
... well ... even under martial law ... they can't mace or club or arrest ALL of us. If all of us who know the truth got out in the streets of every major city, and the noisy mob just freaking ties up traffic for days ... bring the economy to a halt ... what are they going to do ... put millions of people in jail? Let millions of companies go without employees for days? With reams of news footage being generated of little old liberal ladies standing in front of Rummy's tanks on the streets of D.C.?

OK ... everyone sing the score from Les Miz with me, gang ...

"Do you hear the people sing... singing the songs of angry men ... it is the music of a people who will not be slaves again ....!!!"

52. WHOOP! There It Is!!
I've been thinking precisely the same... odd, isn't it, as Paul Begala pointed out on Crossfire tonight, that Bush & Co launch a huge media day of terror coverage, on the very day Bush, Rove & Co launch their "Kerry Is Soft on Terror" ads.

There are no accidents. No coincidences. Everything in politics and history happens for a reason.
