3. Really? He looked aweful to me.
He seemed to beat Franken on one point, on all the others Franken destroyed him. If Quinn didnt have the ability to end discussions, he would have looked even worse.

4. Franken said an article stated that the Iraq War was a boon
Edited on Tue May-25-04 11:07 PM by FDRrocks
to Al-Qaeda. Quinn came back and said the article said "Some speculate the Iraq War is a boon to Al-Qaeda".

It wasn't much of a smack down. Franken might even be right about it.

Everything else Colin brought up were strawmen. Rhetorting his ridiculous points like if people in Iraq dislike us for our preemptive war and strike us later, it proves that they were Jihadists in the first place.... it'd be like jousting at windmills.

9. he was hardly busted
Colin basically got him on a technicality. That technicality is that any estimation of Al Qaeda's recent recruiting success will be speculation. The article estimated that our recent activity has helped Al Qaeda's recruiting and Franken alluded to this in a loose way that left himself open to Quinn's attacks. But Quinn is basically guilty of the same crime as he has no statistical backing to say that Al Qaeda's numbers have gone down. Until Al Qaeda starts filling out tax returns or releases a roll call list all estimates on its size will be educated guesses that take some intelligence into account but rely heavily on speculation. I wouldn't call that embarrassed unless you are a Tough Crowd audience member looking for an excuse to have a Springer type hooting and ooohing moment

before the Iraq war there was no confirmed presence of al Qaeda in Iraq. Now there is. Make your own conclusions.

13. The embarassment...
...should be the mere fact of stooping to be on Quinn's show, much less treating Colin as if he had some valuable contribution.
