5. The whole reason they are doing all these speeches
Is to get headlines with the words "Bush" ,"Iraq" and "plan".

He knows most people will not read much beyond that. He hopes this will trick enough people into thinking there is a plan that his numbers go up.

6. Next Zogby poll will have his approval below 40
He's dropping three points. He made a speech written by a beltway guy that was aimed at beltway guys.

The average Joe will be pissed about this. He's going down to nothing more than the robot followers.

7. The reason the WH didn't request a national audience
is that they didn't want anyone to actually hear the speech. All they want is the lead on the local news to be "President Bush explained his plan for Iraq tonight." That's as much as most people will hear about it, and that's all they want to hear.

So I doubt there will be any poll movement directly attributable to this speech, but if there is it should be a small temporary bump.

Keep in mind, not one single swing voter watched this speech. They have better things to do. I envy them... so blissful.

10. You, my friend, have the entire story in a nutshell
They had absolutely no desire for anyone to hear the speech-they just wanted headlines talking about it. He'll either go up one point, or down one-two. "Nothing to see here....Move along, move along"

15. I live in a heavily Republican area
I had a board meeting tonight. Everyone wanted to get home to watch the speech. We adjourned in time. Hope they saw it. I didn't watch

9. I have no idea. I was busy reading a biography of Stalin.
Radzinsky's.

It's all about how willing people are to embrace a lie.

It certainly didn't put me in a mood to watch Bush.

12. It depends on what happens in Iraq during the next couple of days.
The administration is held hostage by events. That's yet another reason against this war. I keep hearing military and administration officials whining about press coverage of bad events. Did they think that they weret the only ones who could play the PR game?
