Bush Disapproval Numbers Hit Highest Recorded in CBS Poll History
CBS: "Forty-one percent approve of the job is doing as president, while 52 percent disapprove â?? the lowest overall job rating of his presidency. Two weeks ago, 44 percent approved. A year ago, two-thirds did. Sixty-one percent of Americans now disapprove of the way Mr. Bush is handling the situation in Iraq, while just 34 percent approve. 65 percent now say the country is on the wrong track â?? matching the highest number ever recorded in CBS News Polls, which began asking this question in the mid-1980's. Only 30 percent currently say things in this country are headed in the right direction. The last time the percentage that said the country was on the wrong track was as high as it is now was back in November 1994. Then, Republicans swept into control of both houses of Congress for the first time in decades."

3. Let's see how many republicans start jumping ship.
If they sense a democratic controlled congress and WH, they won't be able to jump ship fast enough!

Things are starting to look up! What a great way to start the week!

4. Can Martial Law Be Far Behind??
I was talking about these poll numbers with my wife a little earlier. She said we shouldn't be all that happy - after all, desperate men can resort to desperate measures.....

6. Martial Law Might Have Worked after Sept 11
but now that everyone's jumping ship, it would last about two days -- then Bush would forced to resign.

7. At this point, * declaring martial law would lead to a military coup.
The brass already hate the civvies running the Pentagon and the enlisted men will follow the brass. Plus, you can't have martial law without a police/military force to enforce it...and right now, they're all in the Middle East. I can't see the domestically based troops siding with * if a miltary coup happens.

12. Ha I thought of a good argument against people paranoid about terror.
US: Now if there were another terrorist attack, would you support some sort of temporary martial law?

THEM: Yes, we have to keep ourselves safe.

US: So how are we going to do that since Bush* weakened the military unnecessarily? Now we can't do it because of him!

8. You Realize of Course that His Dissaproval Number is Actually Higher
They have 41% approve, 52% dissaprove which leaves 7% undecided. That 7% should probably count in the dissaproval. Those are more than likely people who actually dissapprove but are just too nice to say so, so they say they're undecided.

10. An excellent article in context:

http://www.salon.com/opinion/feature/2004/05/22/polls/index.html

Coming to our senses?
What the president's declining approval ratings suggest about Americans' judgment -- and the prospects for redefeating Bush.

snip

Instead, Americans could be coming to a deeper judgment on Bush -- perhaps about his competence, or trustworthiness, or character. And we could be coming to that judgment as a whole people. It could be that we are not irrevocably divided down the middle between blues and reds. Maybe some of us just take a bit longer than others to think things through.

I mean, really. I'm amazed that more than 5 percent approve.
