RIDGE Being Vetted for VP Just in Case
Yes, this is from a gossip columnist, but I submit that these old gossipers have higher journalistic standards than G.E.RUSSERT, Tweety, all of Faux "News", et al.

COCKTAIL talk about the GOP VP nominee: Of course it's Cheney. We know it's Cheney. Everyone confirms it's Cheney. Bush respects and reveres and trusts in and leans on Cheney. It's Cheney. Cheney. Cheney. Cheney. It's Cheney. It's Cheney. But in case it's not Cheney, the P's been VP shopping. See, if the atmosphere goes poisonous and mixes up with pro-war advisers and Halliburton and those uphill energy prices etc., some heads must roll so that the President can keep his.

Front-runner is Tom Ridge, whose posture works well. Whatever background underground checks need be done on the iffy could be maybe chance it's Ridge have already begun.

1. Who?
You mean that guy they put in charge of the "Homeland Security" department who then promptly disappeared off the face of the earth? Does anyone even know who he is anymore?
Would he be able to help them in Pennsylvania?

4. Ridge?
VP? Hahaa, well, there are so many reasons that would be a monumentally stupid move.

1) Homeland Security, he heads it, what has it done? Hell, what has he done?

2) Dump Cheney, the "Brain", and leave Pinky in charge? HAHAHAHA

3) Tom Ridge? He can color code anything...

4) Hey, at least they aren't talking Ashcroft.

6. As a Pennsylvanian,
I can vouch for Ridge as a mediocre, plodding politician -- seems like a nice guy, but that doesn't get stuff done -- who dragged my state into a massive malaise from which we won't recover for a long time.

And he's good friends with Dumbya ... how smart can he be?

Best of luck, Big Tom. Love that Crayola Box of Terror! Fun! Brini Maxwell would be jealous!

7. Ridge - I doubt it
If they wanted a pro-choice Republican, they'd go for Giuliani. Some Fundies would stay home, but Rudy would win a lot of moderates.

How about Lieberman or Zell Miller?

9. Giulliani? For President, maybe, but not for VP.
Giulliani would totally overshadow Poor Retarded Dubya, they'll never pick him for VP.

But if the Repugs have to jettison Bush at the last minute, which they might do, they could do worse than pick Giulliani as their candidate. Not a favorite with their "base," but he has a star factor that will attract a lot of votes.

8. It's the truth. Bush always wanted Ridge or Cheney.
It never mattered to Bush that was Ridge was pro choice and for gun control. He doesn't really care about those issues like the right thinks he does. That was always an act with him.

13. Today's Election Alert Level: Peach, With Hot Pink Stripes
I hope they do run him as veep. He's almost as much of a joke as the android they have now.

Funny thing is, this administration is remarkably like the Wizard of Oz folks.

Bush, with his overall ignorance and lack of brain = Scarecrow
Cheney, with his robotic demeanor and lack of heart = Tin Man
Ridge, with his "duct-tape and plastic sheeting" cowardice = Cowardly Lion

14. A Republican aide-de-camp
of a former senator here in PA once told me that:

"These guys from Erie, like Ridge, thought that Harrisburg was Paris when they got there."

Your next VP...how much could he help? some, it would be even closer but I still think PA goes Dem. The area around Philly is positively Bush-hating for so many reasons - choice, Iraq (both from the liberal and conservative side), problems with NE states not addressed by this Admin. You all know the drill...
