Keep your eye on the ball people, don't be distracted: CAMERAS
Edited on Mon May-24-04 02:34 AM by Cronus
The bike story is funny and goofy, for sure, and it bolsters his support - "...he got back on the steed and kept on riding 'cos he's tough and manly," is what you'll hear from the sheeple.

The real story of the weekend is this one:

Rumsfeld bans cameras in Military Compounds in Iraq.

...on orders from Defence Secretary Donald Rumsfeld...

“Digital cameras, camcorders and cellphones with cameras have been prohibited in military compounds in Iraq,” it said, adding that a “total ban throughout the US military” is in the works.

Note that he did NOT ban torture. Just cameras.

6. And rename the prison - Camp Redemption, isn't it?
Renaming causes a split in the results from a Lexis-Nexis search. Helps bury the past.

7. Just cannot have any of that pesky evidence!
They'll do anything and everything to keep their secrets secret.

This reminds me of a thread started by NNN0LHI this past Friday in LBN about the military intimidating soldiers who speak up.

Here it is:

http://abcnews.go.com/sections/WNT/Investigation/abu_ghraib_cover_up_0...

May 21, 2004 — A witness who told ABCNEWS he believed the military was covering up the extent of abuse at Iraq's Abu Ghraib prison was today stripped of his security clearance and told he may face prosecution because his comments were "not in the national interest."

Sgt. Samuel Provance said in addition to his revoked security clearance, he was transferred to a different platoon, and his record was officially "flagged," meaning he cannot be promoted or given any awards or honors.

Provance said he was told he will face administrative action for failing to report what he knew at the time and for failing to take steps to stop the abuse.

"I see it as an effort to intimidate Sgt. Provance and any other soldier whose conscience is bothering him, and who wants to come forward and tell what really happened at Abu Ghraib," said his attorney Scott Horton.

10. Well, That just fixes everything, doesn't it! No more cameras, no more
ABUSE! Done! By executive order of the Secretary of Defense, Mr. Rumsfeld. Scandal over. Move on, get over it. Have we not been hearing the same since December of 2000? Problem solved.

11. RED ALERT! RED ALERT!
Excuse me, but WHY isn't more being made of this? I'd like to hear the explanation of this policy.

"Well, if you are asking 'Am I hoping this action will prevent more pictures of war crimes getting out?' then I'd have to say that was a 'known unknown'."

12. This should be interesting.
This will make taking pictures even more fun. I am willing to bet we will see more now. You know how this turns on some people. It also even points out more what this group in DC are doing.
