... just recently. A stupid split second mistake at high speed made me do a spectacular somersault. But I did not on my face. My hands were protected and took most of the fall before I rolled over, but the speed was too high and hurt both knees and elbows. Last real crash (beside minor slides while mountain biking) on paved ground happened 10.000 miles ago - doggy in the dark crossed my path.

These scrapes are more likely to be from a half-assed dive into the shallow end of a pool. Abrasion of the skin by contact with concrete is more synonymous.
Missing the bottom step exiting the hot tub, while trying to save the drink in his hand, perhaps.
All these reasons would be acceptable and understandable as mishaps, by most human beings. We've all tripped, stepped wrong, etc.

looks like he fell going up some stairs. As he lifted his foot up on the step foot slipped and he hit his chin first then lip and then the tip of his nose, tried to catch himself by throwing his right hand out probably hitting the palm on the side of a stucco or rough textured wall.
