The "GOOD NEWS THREAD" What happened GOOD today. Successes?
Edited on Fri May-21-04 07:29 PM by KoKo01
I think I saw a few pass by here on DU. I think we might as Dems have had a week where "our views" might be getting a voice. At the end of the week, though...I'm trying to think of sucesses that are postive.

I'll start off with "Putin want's to support "Kyoto Treaty." I don't have a link but love that Putin is playing "Goody Two Shoes" to the "Malevolent Chimp on the Warpath."

Do I believe Putin is serious? (who knows) but it was a good "sound byte.'

Is there ANYTHING GOOD GOING ON OUT THERE! As a "Weekend Roundup" it would be nice and therapeutic to hear?

Anything?

1. My company landed
a new contract! We've been treading water for two years, laid off 2/3 of the staff, cut salaries 20% for production, and 100% for mgmt. But we weathered through, rolled out a new product and landed a big fish in a big pond (real potential for growth!). So I am relieved that we won't have to go out of business (I'd hate to be looking for a good job right now). Dana ; )

2. That IS Good News!
I'm trying to think on my own what's good news..because some of us here need this stuff.

I will say that my hubby got a contract to work for a dental company doing "implants" for dentistry. It's a company that doesn't use any "animal matter" in their implants (unlike others who use pig, cadaever and bovine bone for their tooth implants) and he might get 6 months of income out of this.

I just got a check for some hundreds for doing research on Pulmonary Diagnosis for Children with Asthma.

This is for stuff I'm searching out on the internet.

We are hanging in there, with the Bush economy..trying to stay tuff.

I'm thankful for the small stuff. But, I'm not a "kid" and know you guys/gals out there on DU who are much younger than me...need more than what I'm happy about to survive....

but...it's small stuff..that keeps 'ya going these days...

9. Kerry raised more money than W in April (heard today), my kid read
a whole book all by herself, the city pool was open, planted strawberry in our patch in the community garden, Air America rocks, the truth on the Iraq disaster is finally getting through to people, a sunny day.

I recommend starting such a thread daily - we can then compare after a while. It's why I keep diaries.

10. another cosponsor of the Voter Confidence Act got listed
Another cosponsor of the Voter Confidence Act got listed in Thomas today.

(There is a one-day delay for Thomas listing)

Rep Davis, Jim - 5/20/2004

http://www.moveleft.com/moveleft_essay_2004_04_30_the_record_act.asp

Please keep supporting "The Voter Confidence Act."

Dial 1-800-839-5276 (Capitol Switchboard) and ask to be transferred to the office of one of your Senators or your Congressperson.

Then you could say, for example, "I'd like to leave a message for the Senator to please cosponsor "The Voter Confidence Act," bill number S. 1980, to improve the accuracy of our elections."

or
"I'd like to leave a message for the Representative to please cosponsor "The Voter Confidence Act," bill number HR. 2239, to require electronic voting machines to print paper ballots."

If you want to call your Congressperson but need the Congressperson's name, you can find it using vote-smart.org. That feature is on the top-left of the vote-smart.org homepage.

12. Today I spoke with 3 former Bush supporters in a pool in Fort Myers
They are on vacation, as am I. We were lounging around the pool and the conversation started out on sports. Somehow we started talking about politics. Guess what? They're from Indiana. 3 of the 4 voted Bush in 2000. 4 of 4 will be voting for Kerry in November. Not because they particularly like Kerry.

Some of their comments about Bush....

Failure...
Idiot...
Liar....

It was great, made my day.

13. Here's some good news from the swing state of Minnesota
that a friend of mine sent me. Jane is one of her daughters.

On a side note, you'll be happy to hear of the conversation I had with one of Janes's friends (Cindy) last night. Somehow we got around to talking politics and I asked her if she was going to vote, and if so for whom? Whoa! I thought most of these kids were disenfranchised with the electoral system and would probably not vote. Wrong. There are a lot of kids that are really pissed off at Bush and are concerned about the draft. They have not voted before but they will this time. I pointed out that Kerry may have to start-up the draft to get us out of this mess, but she didn't care. They will definitely not vote for Bush. I also told her that the draft board had already started gearing up and I would send her a link to an article I saw on DU about it. I'm not registered, so I can't search. Can you find the article and send me a link? I'll pass it on to her and my girls and they can send it to all their friends. I'll also start sending them links to other articles that should piss them off even more.

14. Thanks "gristy!" I don't have a link to the article you are searching for
maybe you could give more info about it? But...I don't want anyone like me, Female, to be drafted who doesn't want to go. Nor, would I want any males to be drafted who don't want to go.

Have you tried a "Google" search to find what you are looking for. Or, put "Draft" into DU search. There have been lots of articles here about it..

Glad to here about your enthused youngies, though. "The Hope for America" is with them...:-)'s

Edited on Fri May-21-04 08:41 PM by KoKo01
AND, MARTHA's trial had a Secret Service (Bush Plant, imho) who perjured himself and Martha Steweart might have the remote possiblility of a "Mistrial" according to Jeff Tooban...

I'm hoping both of these are "LANDMARK" decisions...dare I hope...but it's still some good "reversal news" for those of us who thought the Bushies would win on both counts...

16. Check out the goodies in this Alterman article - this very paragraph:
by Eric Alterman

Hawks Eating Crow
http://www.thenation.com/doc.mhtml?i=20040607&s=alterman

he Bush Administration has not made it easy on its supporters. David Brooks now admits that he was gripped with a "childish fantasy" about Iraq. Tucker Carlson is "ashamed" and "enraged" at himself. Tom Friedman, admitting to being "a little slow," is finally off the reservation. Die-hard Republican publicist William Kristol admits of Bush, "He did drive us into a ditch." The neocon fantasist and sometime Republican speechwriter Mark Helprin complains on the Wall Street Journal editorial page--the movement's Pravda--of "the inescapable fact that the war has been run incompetently, with an apparently deliberate contempt for history, strategy, and thought, and with too little regard for the American soldier, whose mounting casualties seem to have no effect on the boastfulness of the civilian leadership."

There are enough new pics to use all the way up to election day. We just need to release a few each day until then.
