Do Moderates care about the environment?
After watching NBC news' piece on Bush's selection of Leavitt to head the EPA, They implied that moderates think raping the forests of America are more important than preserving the tiny amount of wilderness left that hasn't been plundered. While it is true that I am a raging environmental extremist tree hugging commie, I wonder is it accurate for the news to say moderates agree with Bush???

1. depends what kinda moderate
I describe my grandmother as an old school democrat who is moderate in her views, she believes in protecting the environment other than giving in to big business, and of course the environment itself.

I don't know what a moderate Democrat is anymore. I saw some blow-dried blond on Buchanan and Press today, claim she was voting for Arnold for Governor in California even though she was a moderate Democrat. Duh? Like couldn't she at least vote for Arianna, if she doesn't like the Democratic choices? So if she is an example of a moderate Democrat, I don't think she gives a damn about our forests.

On edit, I want to add, that Hummer is funding some of Arnold's afterschool programs. This company is not environmental.

was quite an environmentalist as was my granma. so i think moderates can be too. and one of them, John Chaffee was a stand up kinda environmental republican(old school).

5. Most "moderates"...
and even conservatives I know give some lip service to the environment, but don't seem to do much about it. If it doesn't involve money or effort, they're all for saving forests and whales and clean rivers.

The BFEE and the rest of the crew know very well that they can happily make a speech or give out a press release about some environmental initiative, and everyone will nod in agreement and not notice they are lying through their teeth.

Here's Leavitt on the environment when he was Governor:

As usual, there is undoubtedly more between the lines there, but I'm not up on Utah politics or their local environmental stuff. I imagine FOE or someone will have a bit to say about this guy.
