my best friend scored a job with congressman lloyd doggett..
she's moving to DC, and starts the 25th. I told her I would post an enquiry, and see what some of y'all had to say about Mr. Doggett. Her last job precluded her from participating in any political activities, so she is quite looking forward to getting back in the fray. She is a charter member of my 'Ring of Dissent' mailing list, and has told me that as soon as she gets settled in, that she will register on the DU and start posting.

Anyhoo, Texans and others with insight: What is your opinion of the congressman? TIA

3. He's my rep.
and I love him. His staff have been nice to me the couple of times I've dealt with them. I got a really prompt and well-thought out response the times I've emailed him on issues. He was involved in trying to get public hearing on 9-11 and what shrub knew.

I've never had a rep before who I knew really agreed with me on the fundamental principles of the party adn what was the "right" thing to do. I was so very proud to vote for him in the last 3 elections.

Ok, I'm gushing. Lloyd is the bomb and that's why the Rethugs down here are trying to hard to decimate his district in the redistricting fiasco.

2. Lloyd's my Representative... and a damn good one..

He is very canny when it comes to Parliamentary tactics, which is something the Dems need to build on. He always tends to be on the common-sense side of most issues and is very popular in his district here.

However.... I will say that his office tends to be non-responsive. They will always talk to you, I'll give them that, but I get the feeling that information passed to them rarely make it to Lloyd's desk.

Months before the 2002 election, I warned Doggett about the Diebold machines and their potential for abuse, but I've never heard anything out of him about them. If Lloyd's not careful, he's going to be the victim of a "surprise" upset election loss when they get those machines here in his district.

4. Lloyd Doggett is Extremely Well Respected in Texas
He is one of the original "Killer D's." (Those are the people who pioneered the tactic of fleeing the Texas Legislature to avoid a quorum, when Repubs start acting like a**h*les.) He has also served on the Texas Supreme Court.

He's one of the truly good guys in Texas. Here's an editorial he just published about the recent broo-ha-ha in the Ways & Means Committee. (The Bill Thomas fiasco.) The piece is entitled, "How Tyranny Begins."

6. Well, congratulations to your friend,
but I never really liked the X-Files after Molder disappeared. I hope Agent Doggett does a better job in congress than he did in the FBI.

8. Nice!
Unlike many TX Dems, Lloyd Doggett (D-Austin) would never be considered a DINO...he was a leader against the Iraq resolution and helped get debate on the post-9/11 airline bailout bill.

If only he had beaten Phil Gramm in 1984....

11. Congratulations to your friend!
She's gonna love working for Lloyd. Doggett is one of the good guys and he's no pushover. He's a fighter. He's my rep too and I know a couple of his staff now. The're good people too. Hope she likes hard work because we Dems have lots to do once we kill this redistricting issue in Texas and save all our Texas reps. Wish her well for us and tell her she's working for one of the best Texas Democrats.

Sonia
