EXCLUSIVE: Homeland Security 'shuts down' 9/11 conspiracy site

Homeland Security appears to kill 9/11 conspiracy website

By John Byrne
RAW STORY EDITOR

The Department of Homeland Security appears to have shut down a 9/11 conspiracy website, formerly hosted at http://www.realality.com/911. The cached file at Google (http://64.233.161.104/search?q=cache:1emvccCQON0J:www.realality.net/911/%2Brealality&hl=en) holds for the site displays the Homeland Security website for cybersecurity, though the site itself, after 1:00 p.m. EST on Wednesday, now directs to a generic Internet domain holding portal.

The Google cache will expire in 24 hours, after which point no hard evidence will prove the site ever existed. At the time of this writing, the owner of the domain has not responded to an email request for comment. The Department of Homeland Security's press spokeperson for cybersecurity, Michelle Petrovich, did not return a call seeking comment.

In theory, the owner of the domain could have set the site to automatically redirect to the Department of Homeland Security as an elaborate hoax.

"Homeland Security has gone beyond what it was designed to do," remarked one frequent visitor of the site. "It was designed to protect the nation against terrorists, but now it is inhibiting freedom of speech."

The site apparently contained detailed articles outlining a conspiracy plot by the U.S. government with regards to 9/11. By examining what posters have said about the site, the site made allegations that the World Trade Center was actually demolished by an explosive; that the Air Force was told to stand down when they knew attacks were imminent; . It allegedly also states that damage to the Pentagon was in the shape of a cruise missile blast.

Discussion regarding the site proliferated on a popular political forum, politics.com, where numerous posters derided the site's contents as "hogwash" and a "pile of crap."

However, others, including a poster named "AirForcePlaya" who seems to have run the site itself, indicated that they believed that even discussion of the site might endanger them. He claims to be a high-ranking member of the Air Force with a DCSI 1/14 clearance.

"The last time I started looking into some of this the Office Of Special Investigations (OSI) tracked me down and interogated me on what I knew about it and began asking me all these weird questions about what I knew about some group called the "Illuminati," he remarked in the post. "I later found out that several of my friends here who looked into it too were also interogated and harrassed by OSI shortly afterwards too."

"Honestly," he wrote, "I am not telling you one way or the other what you should belive . But openly discusing this in a chat like this can get you in major trouble."

7. Check the top of the LBN page. Moderator should be indicated there.
I find that they are open to persuasion. At minimum, you can ascertain why the decision was made to put this in the GD forum.

This is a very strange or even scary action.

What's with the "Illuminati" thingy? I searched it on google and found conspiracy theories that this is an elite group seeking a New World Order. But, I don't understand why a group discussing consiracies surrounding 9/11 would be questioned about "Illuminati".

5. This is unreal.....
turn the conspiracy theory around and point it at the Clinton WH, as was being done during his entire term, and the site would still be up. Oh I forgot, there is one like this, it's called FreeRepublic.

Edited on Wed May-19-04 01:40 PM by jayfish
that outline the "missile pod" theory? I remember all the poo-pooing that went on here about that theory. What do the naysayers say now. Remember... Just because your paranoid, doesn't mean they aren't out to get you.

ON EDIT: I answered my own question. The site I was thinking of is http://www.letsroll911.org/

It might be interesting to watch that site as well.

Mostly LIHOP.

But this action makes me re-think my position.

9. I understand you're upset and frustrated
but alot of people will still see this in General Discussion - maybe more so than LBN

I'm not terribly surprised by this - frankly I thought they would take actions like this a lot sooner. Truthfully - I'm too freaked out to check this site out - but here you go.

10. kind of a bold claim
considering they haven't talked to the moderator. Who knows, will need to see more proof before I believe this is anything other than a hoax. Why would you be redirected to Homeland Security sight if it was actually them trying to shut it down covertly?

12. It no LONGER redirects
Well, it seems like they set it to redirect before they took the site down completely; they may have had to get in touch with the host to take down the actual domain. The domain now just comes up as a generic portal.

Probably something the site owner left as a going-away tweak when he bailed on his site.

28. Except that it's gone now...
Obviously that's possible. But then why would the site then drop a day later into the realm of a generic domain? Domains just don't expire in a day.

30. Sure they do
Just change your DNS listing to point to domainsponsor.com, and pick up some cash while your domain is parked. Only takes a day or two for the DNS to propogate to all the root servers. Appears to be what he's done.

15. OSI tracking the Illuminati now?!
::LMAO:: this damn rabbit hole keeps getting deeper. I would love to see the OSI's report on their investigations of the Illuminati, seriously.

pssst, OSI, if you're lurking...look for Dagobert Roi. He is the key!

Also, if asked, take the blue pill, you'll be happier.

17. UPDATE -- COMMENT FROM HOMELAND SECURITY
Ok -- I just called Homeland Security again and they gave me a non-answer. They first said, with regard to shutting down sites, "that's not something we do." But when asked if I could print that she's said "That's not a comment. I can't comment on that."

crazy. maybe just legalistic shit, but weird.

20. The ILLUMINATI? Come on.
I'm a relatively open-minded guy, but I gotta say that I draw the line at recognizing the existence of a secret organization that controls everything we do, think, eat, and say.

The GOP is doing a pretty good job of accomplishing that OVERTLY.

:-)

26. read about it some more, it's a theory - one that could be into place.....
it's interesting and fascinating, I do advice you to dive into it all for once, it clears up a lot of questions you might have. And ofcourse don't take EVERYTHING for fact, but with a grain of salt.

29. and one more point.......
I'm working with databases all of the time, I know how they work, I know what can be done and I know how advanced it all is nowadays.

Let me give you a MOST outragous example since you where talking about drinking / eating and control:

Since most people pay with plastic, in the future you will see that your bank statement will become your receipts or at least on your receipts you will receive detailed information about what you've purchased, it's a one way traffic *kind of right now*, you pay, computer checks if it's ok for you to purchase 25 dollars in the grocery store and sends back a message that it's ok.

it CAN be done that information is send towards a general processing unit that knows what you've been purchasing before, since you've had a stroke lately and the insurance company doesn't want to pay for your next hospital visit, it can deny your transaction until you've removed your cheese from the checkout....

THIS IS BIZARRE, but merely to give you an example of possibilities.

OW, And you didn't know that you can use your JEWEL card over at the dominix????????? and vice versa?????, it's one large system people, WAKE UP!

What makes them think DHS shut down the site?

On edit:

Methinks someone forgot to renew the registration of their domain name. Either that or he was hax0red

24. No way to know for sure
There's no way to know for sure. There's the fact that it redirects, certainly, and then completely disappeared, but there's also the fact that DHS refuses to confirm or deny that they shut down the site. We leave it up to you to decide what you think, that's why we put 'shut down' in quotes. Just seemed to good to entirely pass up, since stuff like this would get totally overlooked in the popular press since it was a conspiracy site in the first place.

25. If it is a prank, it's been done before.
On April Fools Day, both whitehouse.org and landoverbaptist.org were set to redirect to different sites. Typing in www.whitehouse.org sent you to a Justice Department site, and typing www.landoverbaptist.org sent you to an anti-Landover site. The sites linked properly again the next day.

However, both of those sites are parodies, while this site is apparently meant to be taken seriously. And, of course, it's not April Fools Day.
