6. Dunno
I don't know but he did get crazy abusive when he was drunk. He got shitfaced in a diner once and saw Al Hunt (the journalist) and stumbled over to him and started screaming and cursing at him about an article he thought was negative about his dad and threatened him. Of course, Al Hunt didn't actually write the article.

This was reported in the New York Review of Books in an article called "Bush and God" a while back.

18. I don't know for sure, but I saw a
movie clip of him while the Florida election results were still being debated. He was sitting in his living room - exquisite period furniture. He looked - pissed. He was fuming about how frustrating the whole thing was. "My brother took the brunt of this..." and then he stopped himself. He looked over at Jeb, fuming.

I could tell this was not a nice man. Shit, I thought. What if he wins?

20. I've never heard of it but he does have a volatile temper
While driving home one night after giving a speech, he asked his wife's honest opinion of his performance. She told him it wasn't good. When they reached the driveway he drove the car into the garage door.

He also challenged his father to a fist fight after arriving home drunk one night and hitting the garbage cans.

30. Or we could just wait
until the country goes bankrupt.

Ask that question. How close are we to defaulting? How close are we to ending up like the U.S.S.R.? Disillusioned, and divided. Overextended military. We have no extra money for any conflict.

Read people. Please. Sorrows of Empire. Chalmers Johnson. We are right on tract. Get your passports ready.

I don't care what people say about what he did to his wife. He is beating the crap out of us right here, right now.

What exactly WAS the last straw that caused Laura to put her foot down? If he was a nice guy to be around after a few drinks I doubt Laura would have made such a fuss.

28. He slammed his car into a garage door once--
--with her in it. Maybe he has learned the skill of directing rage entirely toward inanimate objects.

http://www.usatoday.com/news/opinion/e2147.htm

After a few speeches, he asked her - coming up the driveway on the way home from one - how his delivery was going over. Terrible, said the forthright wife. George W. drove his Pontiac Bonneville right into the garage wall.

29. "Sir, when did you stop beating your wife?" is the correct phrase
It's an oldie as an insult, because it implies that he actually did beat her, without offering a shred of proof that such a thing is true. Plants the thought in other people's minds.

With Bush, I have no idea if Laura or the Twins were ever in danger. But ever since I first saw him on tv as our pResident, I have certainly read his body language as that of a bully who doesn't mind making physical threats to get his way. He enjoys talking about sending others to deal out death and damnation at his behest. How his wife can stand him I don't know, but tastes differ.

34. Onto it...
Hekate - I learned prior to entering law school that one of the things we'd be studying is phrases like: "When did you stop beating your wife?" The question is posed to raise the issue of improper questions that "assume facts not in evidence" - i.e., in this case, the question assumes, improperly, without any evidence, that you once beat your wife - before stopping.

Re: the original thread question: Who cares? I'm just disappointed that Laura didn't make the casting for the new "Stepford Wives" movie. :)
