Summer Olympics
Not sure if this has been making the rounds, but seeing has how Americans have never been so loved abroad, what do you think the environment at the Summer games for our athletes will be? Does the world see us as another Soviet Union? Will there be boos when our team makes the rounds around the track?
I hope not, but...

1. I'm expecting huge rounds of boos
when they run around with American flags.

2. Me too.
And the freepers will go nuts asking, "how dare they boo us when we are trying to bring democracy to the world?"

6. That is my fear also.
The muslim world is outraged at the US and may just want to make a statement as the Palestinians did with the Israeli athlethes.
God, I hope that all goes peacefully well.

4. American athletes have already been warned not to wave the flag
from the medals podium. It will probably not be very pleasant for US athletes. I wonder how the security will be - I would think having that large a number of US citizens in Athens with all the shit in Iraq would make security a nightmare.

5. US Athletes have been told not to wave their flags too much.
It might provoke everybody else.

Tom Bernard of the KQRS morning show had his usual tantrum, but he is so one-sided and lacks so much objectivity (and is wilfully blind toward the truth) that I'm not surprised by his self-induced delirium.

US Athletes need to be extra well behaved this time, I should think...

7. I think that most people who will be attending the Olympics
in Athens realize that the American athletes have absolutely nothing to do with the policies of the White House.

I don't think the American team will get a standing ovation when they enter the Olympic Stadium during the opening ceremony, but they will be greeted politely as all the other participating nations will be.

As long as the American athletes keep their mouths shut about any political matter during the two weeks and do what their best during their events, no one will boo or whistle at them. The Europeans whistle, btw, not boo.

BTW, I wonder will the coverage from NBC be as bad as it was from Sydney? I keep wishing ABC would get the Olympics back, but it looks like NBC has the rights for about the next 50 years or so.

for a photo op with the athletes this time.

I hope the athletes remain safe, but I have to admit I'm worried.
