Why the fixation about "what THEY are saying"??
DU is full of what Freepers are saying, O'Reilly is saying, Rove is saying, Fox is saying, CNN is saying, MSNBC is saying, media whores are saying, Bush is saying, Zell Miller is saying, Lieberman is saying, Matthew's is saying, Russert is saying, blah, blah...............ask yourselves "what is Kerry saying"???? Kind of sobers you real fast, doesn't it?? One cannot run a campaign on the assumption that either 1) the other guy will destroy himself; 2) someone else will carry my water and destroy the opponent (ie, MoveOn, etc.). At some point the nation will ask: WHAT THE HELL ARE YOU SAYING, MR KERRY??????? The nation right now is asking...is there an answer??

1. For the moment, I think he's doing the right thing...
I felt the same as you, but Josh Marshall convinced me otherwise ;-)

Excerpt:
"There's a related line of criticism from Kerry's Democratic partisans. Why is he so silent? With the mix of poor values and incompetent leadership that is at the heart of the Abu Ghraib scandal, why isn't he out there affirmatively making the case against the president?

I've been listening to these criticisms for some time. Indeed, in a pretty prominent venue last month, I made an argument that was at least partly along these lines.

But I've begun to think that all of this is misguided, that whether by design or accident -- and I'm not at all sure which it is -- Kerry is doing more or less exactly what he should.(SNIPPALOO)

3. Tonight I AM on a warpath--you cannot win by assuming the other
guy will destroy himself. Bush will rise again--count on it. MoveOn cannot win it for you or their ilk. At some time one has to stop being the invisible candidate and stand for SOMETHING--even it it's a national campaign to get children to brush their goddamn teeth. You can't win a boxing match even against the most bloated, out of shape, fat bastard if you hide in the locker in the locker room. America doesn't vote for whimps----doesn't George remind you of that every day??? There is no excuse for Kerry to attack this bastard on this war by coming at him from different angles. There is no excuse for Kerry not using words like "liar" on issues like education, etc. Face it.....we think that playing dead will win the White House. It won't.

2. The Wingnuts are not as many as you think
They are a loud minority. They have FOX, lots of radio shows, and cult newspapers like the WT. Ask any American - especially those registered to vote - and they hate Bush and know he's a liar. This rape and abuse disgusts and shames all Americans and offends everyone's morality and all religions.

5. You believe that??---they didn't care that Bush fucked up on 9/11 so
do you believe they are crying in Amureka over Iraqi prisoners?? They are crying at the pump. Prices go down--support of our "presseeeedent" goes up. You will see it. You either stomp on him now or get run over. Stop deulluding yourselves that Americans care about this scandle----they DON'T. You do. I do. Those who are voting Dem do (or at least some of them do). The rest don't. I mean they really don't.

4. Good points
Even if John Kerry wins (and I'm praying that he does)-he will not be able to right the ship of state with the country so divided. He has shown courage before and he needs to find that part of himself in this campaign. The pessimist in me sees an America so off track that it will take years before the damage is undone. Has the national will been irretrievably broken?

6. Macca---you have hit the heart of it all.............
This is the challenge to Kerry. Sitting around and hoping Bush self-destructs will not happen. This is stupid strategy. Yes, you and I will never vote for this right wing Mafia and our counterparts think the Dems are Satan. Kerry needs basically to drive all Americans away from these far right animals whose politicans screw everything in sight but know how to play their "base". This is a task that can be done but unfortunately, this Kerry campaign is just not even half way rising to the task.

...as to how much you earn as a top-level political consultant?

What?

You aren't one?

Then I respectfully suggest that you calm down. The current Kerry strategy is brilliant and solid. Brilliant. (And I haven't been a fan of Kerry.)

8. Know your enemy!
It's May. It's a long way to November. The rethugs have only just begun to hit us with what they've got. Yes, they are unraveling before our very eyes but we can't assume we've got this thing won yet. Until then, we've got to fight them with everything we've got and how can we fight them if we're already throwing victory parties and pretending the other side doesn't exist? Remember-these are scary, scary people we're dealing with. They have no souls, no morals and will do any and everything they can to steal this election just like they stole the last one.
